It took one day of Chi, Alan, and Marco explaining modern terminology to me for me to get the hang of what a normal teenager did. It took three people who weren't Yuuichiro Amane. I had a debt towards him for saving me, I had realized last week in history class.
But he was utterly horrid at fully explaining things to me.Almost everyone was spewing insults about the Anemoi in world history. We had begun the topic of their appearance in their history. I've never seen the students whom I've yet to talk to become so violent, saying that everything was fine until they showed up. That they should have killed them when they had the chance. Kitchi was in my World History class. He looked perturbed, glancing around to everyone. But, never less, he was the one to bring the peace.
"If they didn't come to Earth, you all wouldn't have the luxuries you hold today." He spoke up. The professor nodded, agreeing with him. He was an old, kind man from South America. I sighed in relief from my seat in the back, far away from any windows. I wanted to avoid everyone else as much as possible for the fear that they would discover who I was. But, I found myself speaking without processing what I was saying.
"Uh... I don't think w- the Anemoi meant any harm." I blurted out, arms folded on my desk. Almost every head turned to me.
"They went to war with us." One student angrily pointed out.
"Actually, we went to war with them." My voice was steadying itself out. I was giving facts I didn't know were true.
"If anything, they might have wanted to get resources or explore a new land they were constantly viewing."
All heads turned from me to the professor, who seemed surprised to see everyone in the room paying attention to him.
"Mikaela's right. There was a letter dating back from an Anemoi logging interactions with us. He was talking about how wonderful the arts here were. We... Uh.... We thought they were invaders." He admitted.
Chi looked at me, brown eyes shining with what seemed to be pride. He gave me a lopsided and goofy grin with a thumbs up.My cheeks grew hot from the silent praise, causing me to hide in my arms.
"So, in a summary, it doesn't matter what opinions you have on the Anemoi. I'm certain your family placed those views on you. We have a treaty with them and we'll never see them again." Professor Abejundio said as everyone grabbed their books and notes.
"They're not going to stop thinking horrible things about the Anemoi." Chi said lightheartedly, a wry smile on his lips as we exited the room side-by-side.
"You don't hate them?" I asked, a hope bubbling in my chest. A surge of energy scorching through my bones.
"No, not at all. My family doesn't like to hold hatred for people we don't know personally."
"Is that why your family hates me?" Yuuichiro's voice said from behind us. I was shocked at his sudden appearance, but Kitchi was calm.
"No, they just hate your introverted nature. It's understandable. You went from outgoing to whispering in one single day." He said over his shoulder. Yuichiro was silent until Tetsuya was approaching with Min. Alan and Marco were nowhere to be found."Okay, yes, that's reasonable enough." He nodded.
"Hello your highnesses," Tetsuya greeted with a joking bow.
"And Mikaela. Has anyone seen Mister perfect and the over encumbered nerd?"
"Nope." Chi shook his head. I shrugged with Yuuichiro. Min sighed.
"Two sides of the same coin." She muttered. When Alan and Marco returned looking extremely exhausted, Tetsuya lost it. Everyone else was merely waiting for him to stop speaking so suggestively to the irritated pair.
"Are you done?" Alan asked, cocking a perfect brow. Marco was fixing his glasses, his brows furrowed in annoyance.
"For now." The blond shrugged.
"We were fencing. Don't you dare say what I think you're going to say, Min. We have a tournament next week, and everyone attending was given an excuse from fourth period." Marco explained.
"Exactly." Alan sighed in relief seeing everyone calm down.
"They look pretty hot fencing!" Someone shouted as they passed our group.
"Dammit Magnus, we've been over this!" Alan shouted into the crowd of students. Everyone was giggling.
"That was the prince of Austria I warned you about taking his hair products. Touch his mousse and you're dead to him." Tetsuya whispered. Yuuichiro snorted violently.
"No calling your brother and his friend hot in the hallways! Even if it's true, that's only acceptable in the dorms and gym!" Iris shouted from her open classroom door. She was in the middle of reading Shakespeare to her class, but they were now giggling. Alan popped his head in.
"Thanks for agreeing with me, Professor Dulcibella. But I think you're the only person who would dare say that to him, which is unfortunate." He winked. Marco pulled him back into the still moving group.
"Stop trying to charm the Literature teacher." Yuuichiro scolded, beginning to break out of his shell. Bit by bit, of course. It went on the more we got to know each other. Well- the more I got to know him. He seemed to know everything I knew about me already.Yuuichiro leaned over as we approached the doors to the mess hall.
"Mikaela, let's go on a walk tonight."
I nodded, keeping an eye on the backs of the others' heads.
"That would be nice."

The night wind was rapidly whipping my blonde hair in all directions, my arms in front of me as if I was going to lose balance in my free fall. I knew that if I were falling entirely from this height, I would be a bloody splatter all over the floor. My dress billowed around my legs, but it did not distract me from my destination. My free-fall was stalled by my body freezing in the air, a red light making me visible from far away. A flashlight flickered on from one of the trees far below. I willed myself to go towards it, the wind hitting my face painful as the speed accelerated. I had breached the trees, greeted by the luscious grass awaiting me. I landed carefully on one foot, the other landing once I was grounded. The red light returned from my back to around my neck.
The girl awaiting me looked at me with those beautiful eyes of hers that reminded me of the earth. They were as silver as the moon shining on the ocean at night. her brown hair was tied back tightly in comparison to my loose, long locks that she adored dearly.
"How are you holding up?" She asked in a worried voice, her right hand cupping my left cheek. I shook my head with a small smile.
"I'm fine. Just sad. And mad with my brother." My heart strained at the memory. I remembered how I had screamed until my throat felt raw. How I had thrashed around in the guard's arms that kept me from plunging over the ledge. It didn't matter now. With one look at her eyes, I knew that she was worth every tear I shed.
Yes. I loved her enough to risk everything for her. So much that I would risk my own safety to fly from the land in the sky in which I dwelled to feel her touch again. To hear her voice.
I leaned my head into her hand, my right hand over my left breast where a heart pounded mercilessly. It wasn't from the contact with my beloved.
It was from an empty sorrow.
My fatal flaw was that I loved Corinna enough to risk my own life.
I never wanted to lose another beating heart for wanting to be with her.
But I did.
Foolish was the Princess, indeed,
That she dared to let a single, loyal life slip away from her gentle grasp.
