"A record shop? Are you sure?" Yuu asked, visually appalled at my decision from the long list of jobs. I nodded with a small smile. The knowledge of what the hell a record was was one of the few things my mind didn't deprive me of. Of course I wanted to work at a place familiar to me. The other decision was going to be a clothing store, which I had opted out on at the last second.
"You'll probably get the job. The owner's an old friend of his mom." Min said, nodding to Yuu.

Many people in this academy seem to mention his mother, but I have never heard Yuu himself speak of her.

It was interesting.

And disconcerting.

"You have a high chance to get the job regardless. Your naturally good looks would attract people to the store." Alan reassured me. Marco sighed at his friend's way of making me feel better.
"It's not all about appearance, Al."
"I know it isn't, but it's sure as hell a factor."

"Well, while those two have budding sexual tension at the table, we should probably get to class." Tetsuya said, standing from the table.
"Why sexual tension?" Chi asked innocently, glancing down to him. He laughed, clapping his shoulder, brown eyes shining beneath silver glasses with a mischievous grin.
"You have a lot to learn, my friend."

Those words didn't particularly comfort me.

"So, the town." Yuu said, staring out the window as I scavenged for clothes in my closet.
"Yeah.. Hey, when I get paid, can you take me to get more clothes? I'm starting to think people are catching on to the fact that I only have five outfits." I commented as I pulled out a pair of boyfriend jeans (that's what Tetsuya called them, at least), and a white T-shirt. Both were extremely loose on me. In fact, my waist high jeans were the only article of clothing that fit me.
"Oh, right. Yeah, that would help. I actually forgot about that problem." He nervously laughed. I shrugged, stealing a glance to my bracelet.
"Should I-?" I began, meeting the emerald gaze that flickered to meet mine, his eyes stealing a glance to the large ruby gem revealed for the world to see, but quickly returned to me.

"No, you're fine."  He said simply, pulling open the door.
"Since a bunch of royalty live here, one precious gem won't set off the criminals in town."
That wasn't what I was worried about, but I guess that answer will suffice.

The job was guaranteed to me the moment the man behind the counter locked eyes with Yuu, who was waiting out front, but most of the interview was spent with him asking me questions about how the Japanese prince was doing. He had to explain American currency to me and explained that there was a guide for what the rest of the world's currency amounted to compared to America.

His name was Daveed (We agreed on David for short) Malik, and apparently he had gone to school with Yuu's mom. From the way he spoke about her and her son, they seemed to be close.

I spent my first day on the job studying the currency, and memorizing the price of every item in the store. Records were ten, record players a hundred and twenty five... Damn, what are the record collections worth?

Oh well, it's not like it doesn't have a price on it or anything.

. . .

I think.

"Lorelei, I would very much appreciate if you would unlock your door." The cool voice said from the other side of my bedroom door, my fingers froze above the letters on my phone, a text to Corinna almost sent.
"Later," I called, not necessarily wanting to converse with him as of now.
"Are you mad at me again? If you are, I'm sorry, even though I can't understand what I did." He asked, sincere on his apology.
"A number of things." I grumbled, locking the phone in a small chest beneath my bed.

"Pardon me?" He asked politely. I shook my head despite the knowledge he couldn't see me.
"It's nothing. You can come in. I know you have my key, anyway." I dismissed it, seating myself in front of my vanity, staring at my tan skin shining gold beneath. The man who soon stood behind me was pale in comparison. He didn't spend as much time outdoors as I did. I fixed the necklace strung around my neck, the ruby pendant glistening serenely in my reflection. My golden eyes stared at the mirror for a long while, blonde hair pushed behind my shoulders. His face didn't appear in my vanity, the only exception being the bottom of his face where I saw a small smile on his perfect lips. He was an elder male version of myself with the same golden hair and honey eyes. On his hand I saw the oceanic gem glisten up at me, taunting and knowing. It knew what the man in which it inhabited had done, fully well. These gems weren't sentient, but they were our essence. At least, that's what I believed. Everyone else would tell you otherwise, that the princess's theory was more mental than she.

They didn't let me dream up here. I'm almost certain it's because of the phrase 'you've got your head in the clouds'.  And since it was made by humans, they automatically refuse to take and use it.
"Lorelei, you're drifting again." the calm voice startled me back to reality. I sighed, rapping my fingernails on the surface.
".... Are you mad at me?" He asked as if needing confirmation.

"No, not right now. Still disappointed, but not mad." I sighed.

"Oh thank goodness. How long are you going to be disappointed in me?" He pried. As he asked that I remembered the sweet smile I was given before he fell to his demise. Crooked and showing that he was broken, he had given me one last goofy smile before he died.

"You killed our brother, Orpheus. I may be able to forgive you for that, but I can never forget."

Orpheus stiffened.
"I know you can't." He said blandly, lips tightening to a tense line as if he had just tasted something unpleasant.

He left the room without further conversation.

And I was left alone once more, a hollow feeling in my chest that wasn't there minutes before.
