I couldn't breathe, I had realized with a panic as my consciousness returned to me. It was a painful experience. My lungs seized up and refused to do their job. Yuu's warm fingers were pressed against my neck. He was checking my pulse.

As he had the first day we met. The voices around me were fuzzy. I could recognize only two who stood out above the rest. Yuu and a woman who had her smooth hands pressing my shoulders on the ground.
I knew her name.
I didn't know why until the name clicked into place.
"Corinna Helios, Alec Fernandez's personal Governess. She's an asshole to most people unless you're special." Iris had said vaguely to a student one day. When she was inquired about the Greek name, my professor shrugged and told us to go ask Professor Abejundio.

Yuu was frantic in his speaking where she was calm and collected. Both of their voices bombarded me at once, an overwhelming feeling rushing to my temples.

"Corinna, he isn't breathing!" He cried.
"It's fine. He'll be fine. I can see his eyes fluttering under there. Keep talking to him." She muttered, then saying something inaudible to herself.

I was drowning.

I couldn't breathe, so I must be drowning.

In the ocean.

Where no one can hear me.

Where no one can save me.

No. only one person can save me.

The only person who has done it before.

"Mika..." Yuu said slowly, the hand on my neck now more of a gentle caress. "I'm sorry if I caused this. I truly am."
"You're not." I had wanted and tried to say. It never left my tongue, lingering. I had heard a strangled noise leave my lips instead.
A low stern voice entered my ears, the words like muffled static. I couldn't decipher whom it was.
"Yes, father. He's worth the effort. Trust me." Yuu breathed, voice irritated.
Emperor Tetsuo.
"Mika. I want you to wake up. I want you to breathe. I want you to do a lot of things, but that's all I want right now." He spoke quietly, hands cupping my cheeks so gingerly as if he would break me.

Only then did I realize that I was still unconscious. My mind was still there. I could process thought and most sound. I could feel the warm hands on my cheeks that helped me realize that my face was covered with sweat. I took one shuddering breath.

I was not drowning.

But I was already in the deep depths of the ocean.

Searching for a light in the dark.

"Keep talking to him. It doesn't matter what you're saying to him. Hell, dirty talk him if it'll get him up." Corinna said. The stern voice and a light voice joined in. Yuu's fingertips grew warm against my cold skin.
"I would rather not." He squeaked. I could envision the blush that must have blossomed across his face.
"Whatever floats your boat." She sighed. Yuu's hair tickled my cheek as he leaned over me. Then he whispered an order into my ear.

"Mika, this is the last time I'm gonna say it.
"Wake up."

And so I did.

His face was lifted from mine when my eyes shot open, staring at his father with a smug grin. Emperor Tetsuo scoffed, glaring off the balcony. Hitoshi whistled, making a comment my mind did not process.

Corinna was the woman with blue grey eyes, which were peering into mine intensely.
"You're strange." She murmured. To herself, of course. A note, maybe?
No.
It wasn't a note or a realization. It was as if she were confirming something a friend had told her.
