Iris was alright.

I insisted such things later that night as Alan and Marco assisted her to Alana. She would be fine, I thought as Chi lifted Lucas's body from the beach in his arms and carried it away delicately, as if he would turn to dust in his arms. Min and Tetsuya stayed with us for a while.

"Mika, are you sure you're okay? You kinda lost it back there." Min asked, peering at me.
"Kinda is an understatement. I know Iris is probably your favorite person on the planet, but you really freaked out." Tetsuya seemed concerned for once, eyes shining beneath the gleam of his silver glasses.
"I'm fine. It was just... scary." I said simply. Tetsuya nodded in understanding. Min and Yuu didn't look convinced.
"Yeah. I didn't know that she was even able to react like that." The blond said
"She must have really loved him." I mumbled.
"You have no idea. When he was around, boy was it fun." Min and Tetsuya laughed together. Yuu smiled faintly.
"He would burst into class at random times and proceed to give a lecture about why everyone should buy a dog right now immediately, while Iris just laughed and laughed, forgetting about her lesson plan completely." He mused to his raven haired friends.
"Oh." I said, head shooting up from the interesting topic of grass. "Yuu, you mentioned something about a child. What was that about?"
He laughed nervously.
"She kind of wanted to keep that a secret from you for as long as possible. I still don't know why. But she's pregnant. Announced it to my period of literature the day before you... arrived."
"...oh." I was shocked. She always wore loose clothing. I had never noticed nor decided to look at her stomach, always focusing on her nervous habit of fiddling with her ring. How was I so oblivious?
"You seriously never noticed?" Tetsuya asked, obviously trying to contain his laughter. I shook my head and he lost it.
"Well, I mean, this is the same man that asked 'what's a Canada' last month." Min pointed out, glancing to the ruby gem staring up at her.
"I thought we agreed to not mention that." I quietly whispered, cheeks burning. She looked taken aback when she glanced to my face, but said nothing and turned her back to me. She kept walking.
"Hey, did anyone get the notification about the formal that's going to be held next week?" Tetsuya asked mindlessly. We all answered with no.
"Well, the yearly formal is next week. Mika's gonna love it, don't you think?"
"He's going to be overwhelmed. That's what I think." Min chuckled, messing with my nerves.
"No, he'll like it. He's more social than I ever was and will be." Yuu insisted. They couldn't argue with that.

Iris will recover, I thought as I lay against my bedroom wall that night, too worried to sleep. Alana wouldn't let me visit her. Yuu gave me company to 'keep me from doing anything reckless'. His words exactly. So he sat next to me, green eyes blankly staring at me from my side. A dreamy expression was on his face. Maybe he was falling asleep? I never figured out, for I had fallen asleep far before he. The next morning I had awoken in my bed with Yuu leaning against my bed frame on the floor, head limp. He was wearing his coat as a blanket. We both reeked of salt water.

Neither of us had showered last night.
We were okay with that.
A lot of the people around either were extremely opposed to us smelling like the ocean, some enjoying it. Magnus was opposed, the soon to be British Prime Mistress enjoying it. The two argued about it over lunch, Alan and Marco enjoying every minute. Chi was absent. Something about Lucas and helping Miss Bonduca, Min said dismissively.

We had a substitute teacher. It was boring. And after class, I had nothing to do. No one to talk to. I joined Yuu at band for a while, getting lost and finding a violin before decided to abandon it. He was arguing quietly with someone on a drum, who angrily banged at it with every statement. It was the most entertaining part of my day up until I was able to visit Iris.

It was after my shift, and David had given me a CD from the back for Iris. "Give her my condolences. Lucas was such a wonderful customer here." He shook his head sadly, lowering the gentle hand he had placed on my shoulder. I had agreed to the terms and thanked him before racing down the busy street to visit the school's infirmary.
