Inspired by the twenty one pilots song Anathema

t/w: suicide implied / mentioned, depression, anxiety

Tyler jolted awake, breathing heavily. He was drenched in a cold sweat. He scooted up to his headboard and wrapped his arms around his knees. He couldn't handle these nightmares. Anxiety during the day, nightmares at night. The only safe place he used to be able to escape to, now ruined.

He started to shake, tears running down his face. He buried his face in his knees as he let out a sob. He was starting to overthink. Anxiety was ruining his life, he couldn't even sleep soundly at night, and what was the point? This wasn't living. This was...just not living. He didn't want to do this anymore. Why couldn't his thoughts just leave him alone? Had they not tortured him for long enough?

Tyler's thoughts were interrupted as his phone lit up. He squinted at the bright light and rubbed at his eyes. A text?

Joshua Dun: hey Ty, guess what!!!!!

Tyler sighed. He didn't really want to talk to anyone right now, completely lacking the mental energy.

TJ Joseph: hmm?

Joshua Dun: sososo i found a cat today!!

TJ Joseph: nice, josh

Joshua Dun: Yeah!!!! He's pretty darn cute!

TJ Joseph: i bet

Tyler really was happy for Josh, sincerely, but he didn't want to talk. He couldn't currently life at all, y'know?

Joshua Dun: yup! I'ma name him like, Shadow or something!

TJ Joseph: great name.

Joshua Dun: T, you okay? idk your responses seem a bit...odd and distant

TJ Joseph: nightmares, anxiety, life, yknow? kinda done with the world rn

Joshua Dun: ah. well, please don't do anything stupid, okay? i'm here for you

TJ Joseph: i know. thank you.
