It was one of the inbetween days of touring for Fall Out Boy, and everyone was doing their own thing in the living space on the tour bus. Joe was playing Guitar Hero, Andy was watching, Patrick was reading a book, and Pete was laying dramatically on the couch. Every now and then he'd groan. Very obviously and loudly. But no one was paying attention to him, so he groaned again and flailed his legs.
"What, Pete?" Patrick eventually asked, exasperated at his friends' behavior.
"I'm boooooored," Pete whined, looking up at Patrick like a lost puppy.
Patrick rolled his eyes. "That sounds like a you problem."
Pete plopped his head back down on the couch and crossed his arms with a pout, but then sat up, only to faceplant into Patrick's lap and cover his book.
"Pete, do you mind?"
Pete shook his head. "Nope."
Patrick sighed and heavily pushed Pete's head off his book. But Pete instantly just put his head back in Patrick's lap.
Patrick inhaled deeply, annoyed. "Pete. What do you want to do, then?"
Pete shrugged. "I mean, I'm kinda content here, but y'know..."
"...Other than lay on--"
"Goddamnit, what the hell!" Joe complained, interrupting Pete and Patrick.
All three heads turned to look at Joe, who was glaring at the TV as it displayed a "failed song" screen.
"I give up!" Joe exclaimed as he exited the song. "This is too difficult!"
"Why don't you let me try?" Andy offered.
"Fucking fine," Joe snapped, handing Andy the plastic guitar.
Andy stood up and took Joe's place in front of the TV.
Pete looked up at Patrick, an amused smile on his face. "Joe failed one of our own songs, did you notice that?"
Patrick snorted quietly but didn't say anything.
Andy picked a song by Blink-182, and waited patiently for it to load.
As the song popped up on screen, Andy shifted foot to foot and examined the fret button things, positioning his fingers appropriately.
"Good luck," Joe muttered sullenly.
The song started, and Andy missed the first few notes but then was used to the buttons and began to play all the notes correctly.
Patrick was humming along and tapping his foot to the beat, making Pete (who was still in his lap) bounce.
By the end of the song, Joe's mouth was agape as Andy turned around to give the guitar back.
He shrugged as Joe sputtered and struggled to form words.
"Damn Andy, didn't know you had it in ya," Pete chuckled.
Andy smiled at Pete and sat down. "I didn't either, to be completely honest."
"Hey, Pat, you should play!!!" Pete urged, looking up cutely at Patrick.
"Uh, no thanks, I'm not that great at guitar-"
"C'mon! You play rhythm for the band!!" Pete objected.
"Well-"
"Or you can sing as I play guitar!" Pete offered.
"Well, I-okay fine," Patrick agreed.
"Yes!" Pete cheered, sliding off Patrick's lap. He snatched the guitar from next to Andy, who hadn't said a word."The mic is in the storage compartment," Joe muttered, glaring at the floor.
"Ah yes, thanks."
Pete rummaged around through the games and wii remotes for the mic before finding it, connecting it, and handing it to Patrick.
"Thank you."
Pete began to scroll through the song listing, asking Patrick if he liked the song.
"Hey, what about This Ain't A Scene?" Patrick asked.
Pete nodded and clicked on the song.
As it started, Patrick began to smile and bounce on the balls of his feet. As the lyric bar popped up, Patrick shouted, "CHICAGO! ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?!" making Pete laugh and grin.
"Oh, this ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race!" Patrick sang, putting all of his energy into his act. Pete headbanged on each lyric as he strummed, and he had to blow his floppy emo bangs out of his eyes multiple times.
About halfway through the song, though, the game failed to recognize Patrick's singing as actual lyrics, and they failed the song.
"Aw," Pete said, frowning.
"Dammit," Patrick pouted. "We were doing great, and I was having fun."
"Yeah.." Pete agreed. "Ah, well, we had fun and can perform it way better live, anyways," he said, smiling and ruffling his bandmate's hair before shutting the game off.
