Paralyzed - Chapter 54

Riley's POV:

A horse-drawn carriage.

I snuggled my head closer to Harry's chest and he chuckled and protectively fixed his arm around my shoulders.

I peeked out from under the blanket and gasped.

It was snowing!

The flakes floated down, softly landing in Harry's curls.

I stuck my tongue out, trying to catch a cold flake in my mouth.

Harry watched me, smiling. "You're such a child sometimes."

I gently pushed him, teasingly. 

I crossed my arms and pouted.

The carriage stopped suddenly, halting.

The horse bucked his front paws up, tipping the cart back.

"Harry!" I screamed. 

What happened to the horse?

The horse neighed and began running forward, the wheels of the carriage going fast.

"We have to get out of here," Harry said while tightly squeezing my hand.

He jerked my hand and jumped out the moving cart.

I was scared.

I couldn't do it.

"Ri, c'mon!" Harry called to me.

I gulped as I watched him get smaller and smaller as I stayed in the carriage, the horse running fast.

"Riley!" I heard Harry scream before I leaped off the cart and fell to the cold, hard ground.

I stayed laying there, my eyes closed.

I heard the trotting of the horse, the clicking of the bottoms of the heels as the animal ran away.

Someone rushed over to me, probably Harry.

I was too tired and cold to open my eyes - I stayed silent.

"Riley," Harry said softly as he lifted me up in his arms.

I couldn't speak, I couldn't open my mouth, let alone make a sound.

"Riley," Harry said more urgently.

I laid motionless in his arms, unable to move.

"Someone, anyone, help!" Harry yelled.

Another body rushed over, and I felt hands pressed against my neck.

"She has a pulse," the voice said.

"But she can't move." I heard Harry's voice crack as he said that.

"We have to bring her to a hospital. Someone, call 9-1-1. She's paralyzed."
