Small Town Southern Charm

Chapter Six

 Johnny stayed at my house instead of going home that late. He slept in the living room though because I wasn't getting bitched at as soon as I woke up.

"Thomas, will you take me by Kenny's to get my truck?" I asked when I seen him walk into the living room.

"Yeah, when?"

"As soon as you can, I want to hurry up and get to the hospital."

"Let me put on my boots and we can go. You need to be taken home Johnny?"

"I'll take him home on the way to the hospital. It's on the way."

Taking home Johnny was a quiet ride, he just sat there looking out the window. I just stared at the road ahead of me. When we pulled into the driveway I had to hold back a smile. JoAnna was in the yard walking a dog and she looked furious when she seen that it was me dropping Johnny off.

"So, I'll pick you up tonight?" Johnny asked.

"Yeah, sounds good." I smiled.

"See ya then." He smiled back.

Josh was sleeping when I got to the hospital so I just sat in the chair beside his bed and waited. Twenty minutes passed then a nurse came in to give him medicine. That made him wake up and when he seen me sitting there he smiled at me.

"How long have you been here?" Josh asked.

"Not long. How do you feel?" I responded.

"A little sore but a lot better than last night."

"Do you know when you're getting out of here?"

"The doctor told me later this evening."

"That's awesome."

"You going to come see me tonight when I get home?" He asked.

That question made me nervous, that meant that I had to tell him where I was going later. I sat there trying to think of a way to tell him.

"Yeah, after I get home."

"Where you going?"

"I got a date." I answered.

"With who?"

"Johnny."

"Like my cousin?" I nodded. "For real?" I nodded again. "Oh, that's cool." He smiled.

I was hoping for a different reaction than that.  In a way I was hoping that he'd say 'no, you can't. You belong with me' but who am I kidding that only happens in movies.

"What are ya'll going to do?" He asked.

"Go to the movies."

I spent the next five hours in the hospital with Josh. Around 3 the doctors came in and told Josh that he could go home as soon as he filled out some paper work.

"Well, I'm going to get going. Or do you need me to take you home?" I asked.

"Will you take me home? I mean if you have to go get ready then you can go. I can get mom to come get me."

"No, I'll take you." I smiled.

Thirty minutes later we were leaving the hospital.

"Thanks for bringing me home." Josh told me.

"Don't thank me. You're my best friend, it's what I'm here for."

"Okay. I'll see you later?" He asked.

"Yep, sure will." I smiled.

I got home and got ready quickly because Johnny had texted me and told me he'd be at my house around 6. I waited around in the living room for Johnny to get to the house.

When I heard someone walking up the stairs, I knew he was there. A few seconds later there was a knock at the door. When I opened it, Johnny smiled at me.

Johnny looked a little different than before. He still had his black jacket on but there was something different about him. Yeah, as hot as it was he wore a jacket.

"You ready?" He asked while smirking when he seen me looking at him.

"Yeah sure." I smiled.

"So did you tell JoAnna that you were going out with me tonight?" I asked as we made our way to the movies.

"No, but I think she already knew. She was getting an attitude when she seen me getting ready."

"What do you mean?"

"She was just really bitchy. Well, that's nothing new but you know what I mean." He laughed.

After the movie Johnny asked if I wanted to go to the park to just talk. We got to the park and sat on the bench close to the car.

"So, when's your birthday?" Johnny asked.

"September 12th." I told him.

"Next month." He noted to himself.

"You're sweating like crazy." I laughed.

"You make me nervous. I'll be right back." He walked over to the car and while he was there I sent Josh a text.

Me: At the park with Johnny. When we leave here I'll be over.

Josh: That's fine. Having a good time?

Me: Yeah. Well, I'll talk to you when I get there.

A few minutes later Johnny came back with his drink. He smiled at me when he sat down. As I sat there looking at Johnny he reminded me less and less of Josh. He was kind of a punk type guy unlike Josh who was country as I don't know what. Johnny was different from all the other guys here, he wore black all the time. Black skinny jeans with a black tee.

I think that's what made me like being around him. He was different.

"Well, I guess I'll see you at school tomorrow." Johnny told me when he dropped me off at my house.

"Yep, sure will." I smiled.

"Well, can I have a hug before I leave?" He asked while getting out of his Honda Civic.

"Yeah, I guess." I smiled.

He hugged me for a minute.

"Well, see ya later."
