Tonight Josh, Jody and I were all going to a party tonight. A girl from school was having a Christmas party before she left to go to college in the spring. Josh didn't really want to go but I begged him to go with me. I wanted to have a good time and get all of the stress off of my shoulders.
"I don't see why you can't have a good time without me." Josh complained as we made our way to the party.
"I want my best friend there with me. In case something bad happens."
"But you have Jody."
"You're a guy." I said while sticking my tongue out at him.
We pulled into the driveway and there was already a pile of people there. Who would have thought that there would be so many people at a Christmas party? I had a strange feeling about this party but I was set on having a good time tonight.
I was dancing with Jody to some random song when Josh came up to us. He looked a little pale and panicked.
"Tara, come outside with me." He said.
"But I'm dancing with Jody." I slurred.
"I need you to come outside with me, the moon is amazing tonight." He told me.
"Awe, okay.' I let go of Jody and walked out with Josh.
Josh knew that I loved a good moon even if it was freezing outside. I smiled up at the moon and looked over at Josh. He was still pale and still looked panicked. I didn't mind right now though because the moon was beautiful. As I stood there in awe of the moon, Josh grabbed my arm and pulled me around behind a bush.
"What is going on? You're making me dizzy with all of this moving." I asked.
"Nothing, I just figured you'd get a better view over here."
"Josh, there are tree branches over us. Now spill." I was sobering up now that I hadn't drank for a while.
"It's nothing, I just want to spend some time with you."
"You're lying, you were arguing with me on the way over here because you didn't want to come."
"Stay here, I'll be back." Then he hurried off leaving me out in the cold alone.
A few minutes later Josh came back with a cup of water. He handed me the cup and wrapped his arm around my shoulder.
"I don't want water. I came here to get drunk." I told him while handing him the water back.
"Tara, I don't think you want to get drunk tonight."
"Yes I do, Josh. I'm starting to think bringing you with me was a bad idea. You're acting more like a parent than my best friend." I spilled before catching the words leaving my mouth.
"Well, then I'll leave. Call me when you're not in a pissy mood Tara."
"Don't be like that, Josh. Stay."
"No, Tara, I'm leaving. I'm tired of always being here to protect you, to help you, to keep you company. Tara, I hate seeing you drowning yourself in booze because of some guy. Some guy that obviously didn't give a shit about you. Tara, do you really think drinking is going to bring him back? It's not, he might come back here but he won't be back for you. You were just someone for him to spend his time with. I don't want to see you kill yourself with all of this booze and shit. I thought you were stronger than this."
I was just stunned, there were no words coming out of my mouth. I was standing there trying to talk but I just couldn't. Had I really gotten that bad since Johnny left? I got back inside and got a drink. I didn't want to think about all of the hurt that I had been going through. I didn't want to think about Johnny leaving me in the dust. I didn't want to think about the fight I had just had with Josh.
I was on the 7th drink since Josh left and I had to say I was feeling good. Nothing was going to get me down and I mean nothing. Jody was drunk off of her ass and was currently grinding all up on some guy we use to go to school with. I was sitting on the sofa just minding my own business, drinking a beer. I could see everyone dancing on the other side of the room, so I was pretty entertained.
