Small Town Southern Charm

Chapter Ten

 It had started pouring down rain while Thomas, Josh and I were hunting so the three of us made our way back to the house. Thomas was ahead of me and Josh so we just talked about everything. Josh stopped walking though so I stopped to see why he was stopping. When I turned around to see why he had stopped he cupped my face in his hands and kissed me. It wasn't just a peck though it was a kiss full of lust.

I stood there, confused. Then I turned around to walk and seen why he did it. Johnny was standing in my driveway waiting for me to get up there. Johnny stood there looking pissed off at the world and I was probably looking the same way.

"What? You only like me now that Johnny is around? You don't want to see me with any other guys do you? That's what this is. I can't believe you." I told Josh.

The rain was seeping through my clothes so I was getting soaking wet. I turned around and walked away from Josh. I left him standing there in the rain, I didn't want to be around him. Johnny was still standing in the same spot as he was when I first seen him.

"What was that about?" Johnny asked when I walked up to him.

"He doesn't want to see me with any other guys, that's what that was about."

"Tara, wait!" Josh called out as I was walking into the house with Johnny.

"What Josh?"

"It's not that I don't want to see you with other guys, it's that seeing you with another guy made me realize my feelings for you."

"Okay, well I'll see you later." Then I closed went into the house and closed the door.

What Josh had told me had really gotten me thinking. It was kind of hard not to think of it, I mean I had liked him for a while and he was finally telling me he liked me.

"Tara, you can't let that take you away from what you're doing." Jody told me while we were talking about the Josh thing. "You have to prove to JoAnna that you can get her brother with your cute little southern charm. It's working, just keep going with it."

We were standing in the hall waiting for the bell to ring to go to lunch as we talked. When the bell finally rang for lunch the halls filled with the students.

"Don't let it distract you." Jody told me as she seen Johnny come into view.

The next few weeks I seen less and less of Johnny. When I would ask him to come hang out he would make up an excuse. When we were at lunch he didn't sit with Jody and I, he would go to 'his locker' and never come back. I wanted to know what was going on with him. Was he mad at me for what Josh did? Or did I do something to make him mad? Everytime I seen JoAnna she would smirk at me so I had a feeling it was something she did.

I had gotten fed up with being ignored by Johnny so I was going to ask him what was up next time I seen him. I stood in the hall one day after school, waiting for Johnny to come out. As I waited Josh pulled up, he was my ride while my truck was in the shop. He waited in the vehicle as I waited for Johnny to come out.

"Johnny, I need to talk to you." I told him when he finally came out.

"About what?"

"Why you're ignoring me."

"Okay, I'll tell you."

"Okay?"

"First, get Josh over here. It's something I need to say in front of him."

I waved for Josh to come over. As we stood there waiting for Johnny to say what he had to say, I grew more and more nervous. The way Johnny was looking at me I just knew it wasn't going to be good. Johnny had never looked at me like that so it was bound to be something that I wasn't going to like very much. I stood there nervously waiting for him to give me an answer.

"Okay, you want to know why I've been ignoring you?" I nodded. "I found out."

"Found out what?" I asked.

"Don't pull that."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Yes you do. Maybe it goes something like you planned on proving JoAnna wrong. You planned on showing her that your 'cute little southern charm' would work on me. And I'll be damned if it didn't work, you succeed in making me look like a fucking loser."

"Johnny.."

"No, I'm not done. You...you used me. And there I thought you might actually like me. There I thought we might actually have a future together."

"Please, let me explain."

"Oh, this is going to be good." Johnny laughed.

"I started off doing that but once I got close to you, I didn't think about it."

"Then choose."

"Choose what?" I asked, confused.

"Choose between me and Josh. Right now."

I know it's not the longest but I didn't want to give her answer away.
