Chapter Thirty-Three

I couldn't leave the graveside as they lowered Jody into the ground, it was like I was glued to the grass below me. Josh, Johnny and JoAnna stood there with me as I cried as they lowered her. I just wanted all of this to be some horrible nightmare but it didn't seem like I was getting that wish. After I stood there for about thirty minutes crying, Johnny walked up to me and hugged me. It felt good to have someone hug me right then, I just laid my head on his chest and cried even more.

"I'm ready to go." I mumbled to Josh a few minutes later.

"Okay, come on then." Josh told me while placing his hand on my back.

Before I got into Josh's truck, JoAnna came over to me and wrapped me into a hug. I never thought I would see the day where JoAnna would actually hug me and it shocked me when it happened.

"I'm here if you need me. Just text me." She told me after she pulled away.

"Going home?" Josh asked once we started down the road.

"Yeah, I guess."

Once we got to the house, I felt like I couldn't go in the house just yet. So, I asked Josh if we could walk through the feild for a little bit. As we walked down through the field, we decided to take a break at some bar and we just sat there.

"Thank you for being here for me." I told Josh as we sat there.

"I'm always going to be here for you. I've told you that before and it's never going to change. I wouldn't leave your side right now even if you wanted me to. I'm your best friend Tara."

"I never thought that our little trio would be broken up." I told him quietly as I stood up from my spot.

Josh grabbed my hand and gently pulled me to where I was standing in front of him. He wrapped his arms around my waist, rested his head on my stomach and just stayed like that. As I stood like that rain began to pour through the clouds, Josh looked up at me once the rain hit him. He put one hand on each thigh and pulled me onto his lap, he held me close to his body.

"I love you." He told me.

My heart was pounding as he said that and began to beat even faster once his lips began getting closer to mine. He yanked me closer to him and his hungry lips covered my own. As we kissed the rain just got heavier and heavier, not phasing either of us. Once the kiss ended, we had our foreheads against one anothers, my heart was thumping as I looked into his blue eyes.

"We better get you back to the house." He told me while smiling slightly up at me.

I slid off of his lap and began to walk away from where we had been sitting. Before I could get too far though Josh grabbed my hand and pulled me close to him once more. He looked into my eyes, brushed the strand of hair out of my face then kissed me softly again.

After he pulled away, he slid his fingers through mine and began to walk back to my house. As we walked back to the house, I wanted to call Jody and tell her what had just happened but it all hit me hard in the face that she was gone and I couldn't tell her.

"I'm going to marry you someday." Josh whispered as we laid in bed that night.

"Yeah, sure you will. You're going to marry someone like ten times prettier than me, with way bigger boobs." I laughed.

"Nope, don't want bigger boobs. Yours will have to do." He joked. "I guess your level of pretty will have to do too."

"If you say so, assface."

"Ouch." He chuckled. "But for real, I'm going to marry you one day. You're the most beautiful girl I have ever laid eyes on. You're the sweetest girl I have ever met and nothing is going to stop me from marrying you." He said sweetly.

"I can see us getting married now, you would want a whole camouflage wedding." I laughed.

"Yeah, most likely but you'd love it."

I fell asleep that night thinking about marrying him. The first night in a week I fell asleep with a smile on my face. I knew that Jody heard us talking about getting married and I know she was jumping up and down with happiness.
