Chapter 23
Callie's P.O.V.
The door creaks open. The house is silent. The lights are off, there is nobody in sight. I call out only to hear the soft sounds of my feet hitting the floor, "Muum. Are you home?" There's no reply. I quickly turn on the light to the lounge. It's exactly how I left it except Jordan and Milly's stuff is gone. She's probably in traffic, she'll be home soon. I keep repeating to myself. While I sit down grabbing all of the bedding and food. I feel tickles on my feet, don't move, don't move. I look down to see it's just my hair-I thought it was a weta. God, I hate staying home alone. At night. My phone vibrates and I instantly jump, all of the sheets fly out of my hands. Shit, I grab my phone out of my back pocket. And read the text that sprawls across the screen:
I will be home soon.
-S.
From: Unknown Number.
The phone falls from the tips of my fingers and I scream silently while mouthing the words, I've haven't said since I was eight. "Dad."I glance back down at the phone lying near my feet. I pick it back up, with a tear threatening to fall. "Mum." I say as my eyes fill with tears, looking down at the screen. I power it off. Slamming the door shut behind me, making sure to lock it I run. Not knowing where I would end up. I just run, my phone buzzes again. I look down. It's Aiden, my heart races. I don't know whether to tell him, he's got his own problems-he doesn't deserve mine as well. Shoving my phone into my back pocket, I continue running.
