Bad People

As we give each other a big hug, there is a crashing sound coming from Sam's house. We pulled away from the hug to look out the treehouse window. I adjusted my mother's cap on my head and set down my gift as Sam does the same.
"Sam, I'm scared." I said.
"It's okay, Jack. It will all be okay" she replied hopefully as we tried to identify the place where the crash came from. Sam started down the ladder and looked back up at me.
"Don't move" Sam instructed, "Stay out of sight. And don't make any noise. I'll be back for you when the situation is clear. If anyone spots you-"
"Run. I know." I interrupted.
Sam and I had talked about this before; what would happen if people tried to get her family. She is incredibly brave, unlike me.
After Sam got all the way down the ladder, I pulled it up into the treehouse and hid on the roof, out of sight. I didn't make a sound, just like Sam told me.
A few minutes later, I heard a crash and a scream come from my house. I didn't want to leave Sam, but I didn't want to abandon my family either. So I took the emergency escape rope down to the ground and sprinted to my house. About two blocks away, I saw a man with a dark cloak drag my sister and brother out of the house to a car and throw them in the backseat.  Getting in, he sped off. I slammed the door of my house open, making a loud banging noise. I looked intently for my mother and father only to find them sleeping, sprawled out on the floor, their fingers intertwined into the other's hand. They are sleeping in a rather uncomfortable looking position though. Why wouldn't they just go to sleep in bed? And why weren't they moving? Usually when you sleep, at least your chest moves up and down, but they were completely still.
Then I remembered Sam. I have to go check up on her, see if she has any boo boos from the crashing noise.
I ran back to her house and went inside. If there were any bad guys there before, they are certainly gone now. The house seems so... Empty. There is no noise or movement throughout the whole house. No one is here but Sam's parents, asleep just like mine.
Eventually I go outside to the treehouse, to look for Sam. I climb the emergency escape rope on the back of the treehouse because I pulled the rope ladder into the treehouse when Sam left.
Once inside the treesouse, I looked around for any sign of her. I then saw a frantically written note in the corner of the small building. It was from Sam, I knew that immediately because of the handwriting. The note read: "Jack, you are my bestest friend I ever had. I love you with all my heart because you are like family to me. You have never failed me on any of our adventures. But I'm afraid I have failed you. There are bad people here doing bad things. Please don't end up like me. I don't think I will ever see you again. Goodbye."
At the end I think she tried to draw a heart, but half way through, her arm must have went limp.
