Throughout the years of me being at the orphanage, I have had a pretty crappy life. I'm now 17 years old and I've been bullied all 11 years of my orphanage life because I'm different. I still don't know why or how in different or why it makes me so bad, but apparently everybody else knows. Since I turned 10, the nice people running the orphanage gave me an allowance for helping around the orphanage. They do this because if I don't get adopted by the time I turn 18, I'm allowed to leave the orphanage and start my own life. The only time I can really get away from the bullies, as odd as it is, is at school. Everyday I get there early and leave late so that I have the least amount of time possible at the actual orphanage. They haven't ever hurt me phycally, but the bullies always verbally abuse me.
It's Saturday, so I finally get paid my allowance today. Also, the children are allowed to go out into town and do whatever we want every Saturday. Currently, I am watching my cute little septiceye swim around his tank. I have already finished my homework for today, so I don't really have anything else to do. I haven't made any friends at the orphanage or at school since Sam died, so it's not like I'm gonna be like an average teenage boy and go to a party or something.
I see Steve and Billy come over to me with hate written on their faces.
"Kid, why don't you put away that piece of shite and fight for yourself" Billy threatened.
"Nah" I replied.
After I replied, his face crumpled and he picked me up by the collar, off of my bed.
"Hey! Stop it!" I yelled.
He just responded by throwing me across the room into the other bunk beds. I was mostly in shock because no one ever bothered to hurt me. They just verbally beat me up. They both came over to me and looked down upon me like I was the most pitiful being they had ever seen. Billy spit at me and kicked my side as they both walked away.
Once they were out of the room, I painfully got up and wiped the spit off my face. I went over to my bed and started packing up my things. It doesn't take very long for me to do so because I don't have much, and it all fits in my backpack, including my septiceye. Ann, the nice orphanage lady, came running into the room right as I left through the window. I start climbing down the. Fire escape when she gets to the window.
"Sean! What are you doing?!"
I didn't respond. All I did was readjust the flat grey cap on my head that was once my mother's.
"Sean William McLaughlin! Come back! Please!"
At this point, I get to the ground and start to run. I don't have anywhere to go, but I may as well just get away from there.
After about an hour and a half of pointless jogging around town, I see something I recognize. It's from a memory so incredibly long ago, it has started to go a bit fuzzy. I've haven't been this far from the orphanage since I was only 6 years old.A/n
