Lily's P.O.V
Chapter 23."I was hoping I'd see you here." I glance up and raise a brow.
"I do work here." I mumble before I go back to sorting through receipts.
"I wanted to see how you're doing." Hunter mumbles.
"I'm fine Graham, a few words don't hurt me." I muse lowly, keeping my eyes on my task.
"From your brother it might." He states. I sigh and look up at him.
"I'm fine." I state firmly. He quirks a brow before leaning closer.
"How about we go grab some coffee? I'm sure you'll need it if you're stuck here all day." He states, looking around the place quickly.
"And why would I go with you?" I ask him as he smirks, eyes shining brightly.
"I believe you owe me." He states as I sigh.
"I'm on the clock Graham." I mumble just before a loud voice cuts through the silent library.
"Mathews, take your lunch." The librarian yells my way. I sigh as Hunter smirks happily.
"I believe you just got off it." He states as I sigh.
"Fine, but this isn't a date." I snap at him as he smirks and nods.
"I'm serious Graham." I state while standing up, he raises his hands up in defense though a small smirk played on his lips. I roll my eyes before grabbing my bag and walking around the counter towards him.
A short drive later and we were pulling in to a small dinner. Hunter holds the door open for me and motions for me to go first a slight smile on his face. We take a small booth towards the back and a waiter soon shows up to take our order.
"You sure you're okay?" Hunter asks as the waiter walks away.
"Trust me, the things Logan say, never really surprise me." I mutter lowly. We stay silent for a bit until he clears his throat.
"Winter Break starts next week." Hunter mutters causing me to groan.
"Which means a two week vacation with my wonderful family." I muse.
"It's not to bad." Hunter states as I roll my eyes.
"You try living up to Logan's perfect image." I muse as Hunter chuckles and leans back.
"I do." He mumbles. My eyes meet his as he sighs.
"My parents always have loved your brother. Always compared the two of us." Hunter states. I stay quiet until the waitress sets down our food.
"Why? My brothers not a saint, I'll be the first to say that." I mutter. Hunter laughs and shrugs before grabbing a fry and dipping it in ketchup.
"He has good grades, Captain of the soccer team, hell Logan got a full ride scholarship to this place while my parents got stuck paying tuition." Hunter mused before sticking the fry in his mouth.
"Well I got a scholarship and still get asked why I couldn't be a better child. Every award I ever get goes over they're had while they count the number of goals he makes. Life's just funny sometimes." I state before taking a bite out of my burger. Hunter stays silent though soon starts to eat his food.
It was a comfortable silence, one I wasn't used to when it came to Hunter and while I ate I thought of what he had said. I wondered how and why his parents would compare him to my brother. It was one thing to be compared to someone in you family but someone who you were in no way related to, was something different.
"Can I ask you something?" Hunter mutters, I glance up and nod as he sighs.
"If I had told you, how much I liked you, would you had stayed?" He asks.
"That depends, did you make the bet or not?" I ask him with a brow raised.
"Not, definitely not." He states quickly as I sigh.
"Then yes." I mutter, he smiles and I find myself entranced by it and the happy look on his face.
"But you didn't tell me, and you made that bet, so I left." I muse causing his face to fall. I look up at the clock on the wall before clearing my throat.
"I should get back to the library." I mumble lowly. He nods and stands up.
"I'll grab the check." He states, before I can stop him he was heading to the waitress. I watch him silently as he pays the bill before standing up and following after him. Hunter holds the door open for me before opening the car door for me. I thank him as he closes the door and walks around the car.
It didn't take long for us to arrive back to campus. Hunter parks the car and we both sit in silence.
"Will we ever be okay?" He mutters. I stay silent as he continues.
"Will I ever get you to forgive me?" He asks with a bitter laugh.
"You know, back then I would of done anything to have you love me that way I loved you." I muse. I turn to him and sigh.
"But right now I don't even know what I feel for you Hunter." I whisper lowly.
"And I really don't want to get hurt again." I state.
"I won't hurt you." He assures me.
"How can I be sure?" I ask. He looks me over before leaning forward. I knew what was coming but didn't stop it. His lips connect with mines firmly as his hand raises to cup my face. Our lips move in sync before he pulls back and presses his forehead against mine.
"Let me make it up to you." He whispers softly. I look in to his eyes and can see the sincerity in them.
"I have to go." I mutter before pulling back and opening the door. I don't look back at him as I rush to the library, ignoring the twinge of guilt in my stomach.
"How was lunch?" Chase asks as I drop my bag and grab my punch card.
"It was good." I mutter with a smile causing him to grin.
"Good, come on, I need your help restocking all the returned books." Chase mutters. I nod and follow him, happy to have something to keep Hunter off of my mind.
