Carolyn's POV
~ The table seemed bigger somehow. Like it was stretched beyond repair. It was silent again as the moments passed. Each of us sat on a side of the table. Everyone seemed so far away because the awkwardness settled in. Clinging forks and knives filled the empty words that were never spoken. We ate in peace. All eyes fixated on each of us. We kept looking up and then back down at our plates. One thing I couldn't help notice is my brother keeping his eyes on Beck. Beck was just staring down at his plate and time to time he would look and smile at me. I wonder what's between those to.
" So, hows school going for you Carolyn?" Charlotte said breaking the air that was restless silence. My eyes look up at her as I heard my name. Tracey and Beck dropped their utensils and stared at me for an answer.
I cleared my throat," uh, I am doing good I guess. A little rough in math, but I wouldn't worry to much about it."
"Oh, and what about you Beck?"
"Yeah, what about you?" Tracey fired his words after Charlotte's.
"Um..." Beck was caught off guard. "I just started going to school here, but I guess I'm fine. I think I fit in alright. I mean I met Carolyn." His smile was directed toward me. I could feel their eyes on which made my face red hot.
"Oh, so you just moved here?" Charlotte said bringing back attention to Beck.
"No actually I was home schooled until recently," Beck nodded.
"Really? That seems lonely," Tracey said.
"Tracey!" Charlotte and I spoke at the same time. I can't believe him!
"What?" Tracey raised his hands up in a gesture.
"Your being rude," I glared.
"I just want to know. I never been home schooled so I wanted to see if it was lonely and that's why he's on to you."
"What? What are you-" I scampered. Why would he be so mean? That's not the reason at all.
" Carolyn it's fine," Beck interrupted. " It was kind of lonely. You know, I had no friends or anyone to talk to or joke around with, so I guess you could say I was lonely. My uncle was only one there for me. After my parents were gone he was my only friend."
Oh Beck...
"Then my uncle and I made a deal, I would start going to school for my last year, but after words I will have to live in Pennsylvania."
His eyes were swollen in sadness as he looked at me. My eyes became teary. What did he just say? I couldn't imagine his leaving. No.. he can't..
"Your not staying? Why?" Charlotte said.
"My other family lives there, so my uncle wants me to take over our family business there," He covered up. It was about his pack, wasn't it?
"What about Carolyn?" Tracey fused. My eyes widen toward Beck. I needed to know this too. What will happen to me when he's away? Will he change his mind?
"I wasn't planning on meeting Carolyn. Hopefully I can convince my uncle to let me stay or she can come with me," His words filled warmth in my heart. He didn't forget about me in this decision.
I grinned at Beck, showing him my blushing cheeks. He chuckled as if we were the only one's in the room. Tracey was silent and Charlotte nodded her head in satisfaction.
~ After dinner and breaking the silence with conversations we were standing saying our goodbyes. I gave Charlotte a hug hoping her and Tracey will stay together. He finally met a girl that he truly likes. I spend countless days when he was in high school witnessing him going from girlfriend to girlfriend. Either they would cheat or he just didn't feel anything for them. I see it in his eyes they way he looks at her. So much passion and protection. His smile lights up fully when she's around. The way he looks at her makes me think about how Beck looks at me. He looks at me with the same expression. Tracey and Charlotte's relationship is based on love. What is ours based of?
"What was going on with you and my brother?" I asked Beck who stood tall beside me. Tracey and Charlotte were packing up their things. I had some free time to investigate.
"He had 'The Talk' with me," Beck said.
"The Talk?" I raised an eyebrow.
"Saying he'll hurt me if I did anything bad to you."
I ended up bursting out laughing. Beck jumped back in shock. His expression was priceless.
"Tracey was always the love type not the fighter type. Look at him, he hasn't worked out never in his life. I could even beat him, but Him-beating-someone-up," I continued laughing through words.
"So he was bluffing?"
I nodded grabbing my stomach in laughter. My brother a fighting type? Haha no, he spend days with me crying over Barbie movies when we were little.
Beck started laughing with me as Tracey glared at us.
Charlotte and Tracey walked over to us. Their bags sat down next to their feet. The smell of Turkey still lingered in my apartment.
"Goodbye, again it was very nice to meet you," Charlotte said reaching out for my hand. I grabbed it and we shook our goodbyes away.
"Same," I smiled.
"Bye sis," Tracey said grabbing me into a tight hug. Charlotte backed away from the sudden hug that broke her grip from me. She chuckled a little. Yeah, my brother is the loving type.
Tracey released me and stood next to Charlotte. They both were smiling.
"What are you guys smiling about?" I asked.
"We have news..." They both said.
Beck and I exchanged looks at each other.
"We're going to be staying her In Ocean View for the rest of the year!" Charlotte exclaimed in excitement.
Tracey nodded," My school is under construction, so we grabbed a motel here to be next to you. Did I forget to mention it?" Tracey smirked evilly.
Beck's and I's mouths hung opened. This day just got worst....
