Chapter 5 ~Returned Abuse~

~ All of us were listening around the fire to why Ben and Rene made a giant commotion. Carla finally came out of the tent when Travis went in to speak with her. She covered up next to Travis and he held her. I think Carla will stay with this one. Justin was sitting down, but rocking back and forth, covering his ears. His eyes were close shut. Rene's body was covered up with a short white towel. Her red hair was wet as was Ben's. He was wrapped in a towel too that hugged around his waist. Their arms were wrapped around each other scared that if they let go they would float away. I was more intrigued than frightened. I wanted to know why they were running and shouting. I leaned in closer to where they were sitting, trying to listen carefully. 

"We were skinny Dipping in the lake that passes through here," Rene started. 

"We didn't know what it was until- until it came out where our lantern was showing light," Ben spoke after. 

Rene's voice entered again. They were telling their story back and forth between each other. "He was just so humongous, so-so we grabbed our towels and ran... Fast." 

"While we started to run we heard the thing faster footsteps run passed us." 

"It headed towards camp. I was so scared," Cried Rene in Ben's arms. Ben cradled her softly. 

"So what was it?" I asked them without hesitation. Ben looked up at me. I knew he was going to tell me because Rene couldn't speak anymore with her tears flooding her eyes. 

Ben's mouth opened about to give me an answer, but Travis interrupted. 

"Was it a wolf? Like a giant one?" He questioned.  

"No... It was giant, but not a wolf," Ben bowed his head. It wasn't Shadow? What kind of thing was it then? 

"It was like nothing I've seen before. Its hard to describe it. It was like giant walking bat with feet. That's how it looked like. It also was staring at us I noticed he had red eyes." Ben explained. A giant red eyed walking bat?

"I never knew things like this could exist in such a world," We all stared at Carla when she said that so calmly. I agree Carla, I thought.

We left the campsite that morning. We didn't want to stay. I didn't because, like Carla, seeing a bat thing would make me freak out like when I saw Shadow. Justin passed out in the truck followed by Carla and Rene. I watched the woods pass by rapidly. I was watching each tree pass by. I fixated on the fall colors coming in the veins of the tree's leaves. I kept my mind to myself on the way back, afraid if I spoke my mind I would have my voice cracked. My mind raced with thoughts. Was Shadow protecting me? I want to see Shadow. What was that monster that scared Ben and Rene? I'm confused by my thoughts. I got consumed by them all the way home. Can I even call this place a home anymore?

Its been five days since the occurrence in the forest. Back at school I officially became friends with the gang. I was happy, more fortunate than anything. We all forgot the incident by the time school started again. Carla and Travis are still together, he's a stood up guy. Carla really likes him. I told her I have the best choice in guys. They have alot of fun together.

Ben is the clown, we laugh at anything he says even if its not meant to be hysterical. Rene is my best girly friend whose obsessed about making fashion. She tries to dress me hotter just like Carla. I'm breaking into their evil plan. Also, my brother called and he wants to come to thanksgiving in a few months. He has a new girlfriend. He seemed ecstatic when he talked about her.
