Chapter 3 ~Ready?~

~ After I met Shadow, I felt like I was complete. I couldn't explain the feelings I had for this giant wolf. My life was fun and I thought I had everything. When I saw Shadow I rethought my life. After I gave him his name I saw his lips curve into a smile. He was so weird, different, and unusual, but I loved every minute of it. Sure he stared and sat moat of the time, but he was listening to my shakening past. Carla knew about every and was with me when I cried, but she didn't understand or concentrate on my feelings. Shadow makes me feel safer. I feel different with him. It has been almost a week since I felt his comfort.

 ~FLASHBACK~

"...Shadow," I smiled as his new name left my lips. Shadow, yes, what a great name for a wolf whose magical, different, and has the most dramatic way coming out of the darkness. He' head faced me and his long legs stared moving toward where I was standing. I didn't back away. I swear a voice whispered to me TRUST SHADOW. My gut in the pit of my stomach agreed with the reassuring voice. I did trust him even before the voice occurred. I don't know why I felt the need to trust him, I just did. So I didn't try to run or escape. Shadow got to my still body. I could here his deep breathing through the dark silence. His cold wet nose touched the top of my light skin. Goose bumps covered my arms and legs. My hairs stood on end. Oh God that feeling again, I thought. It felt so alive. His nose started sniffing my entire body, making my knees go weak. The feeling kept re-entering my body. I noticed his nose near my sides. I blurted out into the quiet forest laughing. I collapsed on the murky ground. He's sniffling stop as I looked at him with my face still in a laughing smile. He looked at me like he just did something wrong. Shadow went for my sides again. 

"Please st-stop Shadow. I-I'm ticklish," I said caught in between breathes. He stopped and positioned himself next to me. I leered and rubbed my hands back into his fur, touching and feeling every strain through my fingers. I wanted more of that feeling. It was like a drug. 

" I'm glad you can trust me because I trust you Shadow," my quieting voice entered the stillness. His silver eyes scrutinized at me and they looked blissful. After the silence broke I talked to Shadow about... well, everything. Of my past and how I miss my brother, but my parents more. I also spoke of Carla and her crazy ways. He listened through my enjoyable and sorrowful times. I held back my tears as my parents entered the conversation. I didn't want my new companion to see my watering eyes. I needed to be more brave. I think a little bravery came through after seeing and befriending a real wolf. I knew Shadow felt pity for me when my life story entered his mind. I saw it in his gorgeous eyes and the way his body inched closer to mine. I didn't want pity, I just wanted comfort. I let it slide because I guess pity was all that was left.  

After my sentences ended, my stomach growled. Shadow flinched surprised at the noise. 

" Sorry Shadow I got to go. I'm starved and I bet your hungry too. I don't think you want to eat your new friend," I chuckled.  

Oh crap! I totally forgot about Misty. My mind was so caught up in Shadow I didn't even realize. I stood up almost pushing Shadow off of me. 

"Thanks for listening though. Must have been pretty boring, but I'm grateful.." I kneeled down and hugged him. I hugged,a wolf. A wolf! I didn't find the reason why, but it just seemed natural. He sniffed my hair when my arms wrapped around his strong neck. He was probably getting my sent. Some more tingles filled my body. It was more powerful. I knew I was savoring this feeling for a lifetime. I sauntered away from the embrace and back into the darkness of the forest. I used my cellphone as a light to guide me even though it was flashing red. I saw his silver eyes as I disappeared.

~PRESENT~

I ended up running into Misty on the way back to the apartments. She was barking at a tree. I guessed that she probably saw a squirrel up the tree. When I returned with her, Mr. Holden gave me twenty dollars. I knew finding Misty would pay off. I met Shadow and got an extra twenty dollars. I kept thinking about Shadow though. The way his fur moved in the wind, how his eyes shimmer, and how the sparks went into my body when I touched him.

During my exams, my mind kept inserting Shadow over and over again. I was wondering if Shadow could take an exam. A wolf exam. Ha, that would be funny to watch. Everywhere I look I kept thinking about what if Shadow did this or that. Shadow had an impact on me. I was a little frightened, but then I took a risk. My whole world shifted when I saw his silver eyes through the crowding trees. I was brave to go deeper to the forest. Like something was pulling me towards it. Like gravity took a toll on me. Like... fate. I took a risk an got to know Shadow. I believe risks could make any situations better.

I think I did great on my exams. I had a difficult time with some questions though. Like when the math subject came up, some questions I was like did we even learn this? I was somewhat confused because my mind was busy on something else entirely. Was I ever going to see Shadow again? Carla said we are camping from Saturday to Monday because we have off on Monday. I knew we were camping, but for two days straight? I was excited. I'm keeping Shadow a secret because if I told people then his whole world would be revolved around publicity. I couldn't do that to my Shadow, but I hope I can sneak away and see him again. I was a little disappointed when Carla told me Justin was coming. Justin is this cute guy who like me and Carla wants me to date him. I told her that after Isaac I wouldn't date anyone until I figured out my situations. Isaac was forced out of town by the police, but there's still the fear of him returning. Her new boyfriend who goes to our school is coming with us. His name is Travis and Carla's other friends Rene and Ben are joining. Rene and Ben are also dating. Apparently this is a couples camping. I told Carla I would be nice to Justin, but who knows what could happen.

Later that night I waited with Carla outside of her place. Our bags stacked up next to us. Carla had a few more bags than mine, but I'm not surprised. She's always have brought so many things that she barely can carry. I packed some jeans and T-shirts. Carla insisted on me packing one of her lingerie. I shook my head 'no'. I don't want to lead Justin on that I.m interested. We waited for about twenty minutes talking about what we are going to do while camping until everyone finally showed up in Travis's truck. Rene was driving it as all the boys were in the back of the truck. They held up their drinks yelling "WOO CAMPING." Rene looked frustrated with the guys, but she managed to wave at me and Carla. We both raised our hands and waved in return. This was going to be a stressful weekend I could tell. 

"Ready?" Carla asked picking up her bags. 

I lifted mine in my hands," As I'll ever be." 

We headed toward the truck in a big huff.
