Carmilla's POV:
"Ouch, watch it bud." I say giving Laf an angry look.

"Sorry Carmilla, these tests aren't supposed to be easy on you, ya know?" They say with a laugh as they jab me with another long needle.

"Whatever." I wince at the poke. We've been going behind Laura's back for about 4 nights now. She was busy with classes and trying to figure out where these creatures are coming from, along with how they tie to my mother, while I was still trying to understand what was wrong with me.

"Keep staring at the wall like that and I'll start thinking I've taken way too much blood from you." Laf says pulling me out of my thoughts.

"I just-"

"Yeah yeah, 'have alot on your mind' I know I know. Don't you think I do too?" They say pointing at the tubes of blood they managed to collect over these days.

"You think you have all you need? At least for awhile? I miss getting sleep, and I feel Laura's starting to get suspicious."

"Don't you think I miss sleeping with Perry?" They say a little saddly.

I look down at the wires stuck inside me. I guess I never really thought about what they could be going through with all this stress.
"Hey. I um. Appreciate? This?" I say a little unsure of my words. I was never really good at comforting people other than Laura but I actually felt some sort of sympathy for Laf. They were trying to figure out what was wrong with me after all.

"Okay. 1. Don't try to comfort me again, you're the worst." I laugh at their comment.
"And 2. As much as I'm sure you do "appreciate" this, I'm doing this mainly for Laura. She's the one who thinks so highly of you. She loves you." I freeze at the comment and Laf notices.
"Oh please, tell me you see it too?" They say. "More than 300 years of knowledge, you can't be that clueless." They laugh while pulling the wires and tubes they had me connected to.

"Alright alright. Whatever you say Doc." I say in slight denial.
"I'm gonna take off now. You should um. Sleep"

"Get out of here 'fangface'." Laf says with a chuckle, trying to copy Danny's tone.

"Ain't gotta tell me twice" I say giving the ol' 'lesbian solute' and walk out of their lab.

I just wanted to get to Laura. These long 4 nights had been dreadful. I haven't had the strength to do much and all these tests were only draining me more. I've been shocked, burned, blood tested and skin tested. Nothing was coming out but the same black particles, or parasites. Laf couldn't seem to keep one alive long enough to examine it. It was getting quite frustrating.

Once I reach our dorm I slowly creep through our door trying to make as little noise as possible. As I walk towards the bed I stumble across Laura's sketch book. She didn't draw much but when she had the chance, she was great. She always wanted me to help her sketch, with the 'years of experience' she thinks I have. It was a cute gesture honestly. I place her sketch book on her desk trying to respect her privacy and slowly slide into bed. She instantly turns to her side and I wrap my arms around her from behind and pull her close to me. Her back is arched and against my chest. I begin playing with her hands gently trying not to wake her but my need to hold them was growing overwhelming. Placing her hand in mine I smile at how perfectly it fits. I suddenly feel her squeeze my hand and turn to me with tired eyes.

"Carm?" She says rubbing her eyes slowly with the back of her hand.

"Shhh. Sleep baby." I say and kiss her cheek. She smiles tiredly.

"Have you been here the whole time? I felt really cold for awhile." She says snuggling her back into me.

"Of course love," I say a little sad about lying to her but what more could I do. "I just got up to use the restroom is all."

"Oh" she yawns. "Okay" and after that tired last word she was fast asleep.

I could hear her heartbeat loudly. It was just one of the many things I loved about being beside her. Sure every human had one, I even had one at one point, but hers.. had its own beat. It was different from Laf's, Perry's and Danny's combined. The second beat of her heart was almost whispered. Every other humans was so loud and easily noticeable but hers was almost like it was nonexistent. It was different.
It was hers. My Favorite Heart Beat.

Laura's POV:
My review of the books Laf and Danny retrieved from the destroyed library gave no ideas of how the creatures were coming into Silas. It was Thursday and I had Calculus with Danny but we decided we'd try rummaging through the dean's office. Yes I know, this was against Carmilla's wishes, not to mention it involves Danny, but if she wasn't going to help then I had to go against my promise. I'd be safe. Danny would be there after all.. I can't just lay here helpless, watching her hurt. She seemed to be a lot more drained. We hadn't been out of campus in days and she hadn't been out of bed either. It was hard for me to watch. I have to do something..

I kiss Carmilla's forehead and she sends me a tired smile.

"I'll see you after class, cupcake," she says yawning and closing her eyes.

"You got it" I smile a little sadly. I hated lying. I wasn't very good at it either, but since Carmilla was too tired to pay attention she wouldn't notice my offness.

I go out into the hall to find Danny waiting for me.

"What's with the books Hollis? I thought we were-"

"Shhhh. Carmilla's asleep." I whisper pointing at my dorm room.

"Oh.. she doesn't know?.." Danny gives a sad smirk.

"We both know it's best she doesn't."

"Well then." She says quietly, " I suggest we get going if you want to make it back at the same time your class ends."

"Thanks for understanding Danny." I say giving her a small smile which she returns. We begin creeping through the crowd of students to the Dean's office.

Laf's POV:
I slide the next slide under my microscope. Please give me something to work with , I think to myself. The parasite is still squirming in between the two slides. This one's gotta stay alive. I begin to poke the parasite with my needle but before it hits the parasite, it dies.

"Damn it!" I yell throwing the slide across the room.
"Why isn't this working. Why can't they survive out of the tube?!"

Suddenly I hear the centrifuge begin buzzing. Huh?

I run to the machine and see that it successfully split Carmilla's blood into its components. Observing each of the tubes I find something worth looking at.
Wait...

I take off my laboratory glasses and drop them on the floor in shock.

This... This is..

Suddenly Laura bursts into the door helping carry Danny on her shoulder?

What the what?

"Laf please help!" She says in a scared tone.

I quickly hide all of Carmilla's samples and my equipment before running to help hold Danny up.

She mustn't know..
