"Hello?" I asked as I answered my phone as I drove to work.

"Yes, Mrs. Waters, right?" A male voice asked.

"That's me. May I ask why you're calling?"

"This is Principle Bailey." He cleared is throat and continued, "I have your daughter in my office currently."

I gasped. "What happened? Did she do something wrong?"

"No, no. You're daughter is an excellent student." He laughed.

I sighed from relief. "Then what are you calling about?"

He stayed silent for a little longer. "Jay has been to the nurse twice today."

"She has?"

"Yes. She has an upset stomach and a head ache."

"Oh. She was fine before I brought her to school."

"The nurse thinks that she may have a cold."

"Oh dear. Do I need to come pick her up?"

"It would appear so. Are you available to come pick her up now?"

"Yes, yes, of course. I'll be right there."

"Okay. See you soon, Mrs. Waters."

"Bye." I hung up the phone and threw it in the passenger's seat.

I sighed heavily. 'She was fine this morning when I let Caden take her.'

I decided to give Caden a call.

Rrriiinnnnggggg...

Rrriiinnnnggggg...

"Hey! How's my beautiful wife this morning?" Caden chirped.

I laughed. "Hey. I'm good. How're you?"

"I'm great. In fact,  I'm more than great."

"Really now?"

"Yes. Elizabeth, she just gave me a raise. I'm over the moon."

"She?"

"My boss, Fern quit."

"Does this "she" have a name?"

"Margret Finn."

"Hmm.." I thought, "Does she have shiny red hair and green cat eyes?"

"Umm.. Yes. Why?"

"Oh, she's just the most evil person on the planet."

"She is not. Do you even know her?"

"Yeah, she gave me a rough time in high school."

"Maybe she changed, babe."

I sighed. "You don't get it, people like that don't change."

He laughs. "It was high school, darling."

"Listen, I've gotta go and pick up Jay now."

"What's wrong with Jay?"

"She's sick. She was fine this morning, I don't know what happened."

"Oh no. Maybe I can fix her some soup when I have my days off?"

I smile at his sweet words. "I'm sure she'd love that. Thank you, babe."

"It's no biggie. I'll let you take care of Miss Jay then."

I laugh. "Alright. I'll call you later, babe. I love you."

"I love you too. I look forward to hearing your voice again."
