"Geez, what's so important na kailangan mo na talagang umalis ngayon?!" Jasmine demanded as she handed me my bag in front of the main gate of the school.

"I'm meeting someone today." I took out my excuse slip from my pocket and smoothed out the folded areas.

"Wait a second. You're meeting someone?" Agad kong tinakpan ang bibig niya bago pa may makarinig. Tumingin ako sa guard's station sa tapat namin. Buti na lang at hindi yun narinig ng security guard. Ayoko namang ma-report sa parents ko ang pag-skip ko ng classes no!

"Geez, ang ingay mo talaga! Yes, I'm meeting someone." I said as I took my hand off of her mouth.

"Ikaw ba talaga si Nadine?" Ang tila gulat na gulat na tanong niya.

I stared at her in disbelief. Unbelieveble. Nasiraan na ba talaga 'tong best friend ko na 'to?! "Duh! Sino pa kaya ako? Kambal niya?"

"Over a year ago." I sighed. Please wag na naman nating i-bring-up ang subject na yan!

Napailing na rin siya. "Well, yeah. Kaya nga nabigla ako nung nalaman kong makikipag-date ka. I'm so happy that you've finally moved on! So, who's the lucky guy?"

This time, ako naman yung napailing. "Actually, to tell you the truth, I'm not going on a date. It's more like a...umm...I don't know, like a set-up?"

She raised an eyebrow. "Are you meeting a relative?"

"It's not a relative. I'm going to find out Jacob's identity." I said as I presented my slip to the guard. He nodded and opened the gate. But before I could get out, Jasmine suddenly grabbed my hand and pulled me back.

"Sandali lang ha. You're actually going to meet up with a guy that you've never met before ALONE?!" Buti naman at hindi sumabog ang eardrums ko sa lakas ng sigaw niya.

"Hindi naman no. He said that we both know each other, so he's probably one of my friends. Tsaka technically, I'm not actually going to meet up with him. Not directly at least. And besides, hindi ba't ikaw rin naman ang nagsabi sa akin na kilalanin ko siya and track him down?"

"Pero hindi ko naman sinabi na makipagkita ka sa kanya diba? Hindi ba't okay na rin naman just to know him by name? And how can you trust this guy? Paano kung rapist pala yan? Or kidnapper? Or stalker?"

"But Jasmine, we're going to meet up in the park. It's a public place with a lot of people. And doon lang talaga kami. Wala nang ibang pupuntahan pa. So chill, okay?" I tried to get out of her grip, but she wouldn't let go of my hand.

"I will not let you leave unless you see reason!" And since when did my best friend become my mother?

"Jasmine, let my hand go!"

"No way!"

Geez. Pareho nga talaga kami ng ugali ng babaeng 'to. Parehong stubborn. Fine. I have no choice but to go through my last resort.

"Jasmine, may ipis sa paanan mo!"

"Saan?!"

Instinctively, binitawan niya ang kamay ko and tumingin sa lapag. Agad akong tumakbo palabas ng school. Hindi ako tumigil hanggang sa halos mawalan na ako ng hininga. Success!
