It's been a month now since Harvey and Jim gave me a job at the precinct and it's been going good so far. I've learned how the last person organized the room and now know where all the files go.
I was sitting at the desk, reading Jerome's file for the hundredth time, when I heard a knock at the door. I quickly hid his file in the drawer and cleared my throat. "Come in." I called out. It was Lee pushing in a cart. "Look what we found! I think it'll make your job a little easier." Lee said. "Oh that's great! Thanks." I smiled. "So um cops don't really have time to come all the way up here to give you the files so how about you use this cart downstairs to collect the files?" Lee suggested.
"Yeah I will. Thanks." I said. "Alrighty then I'm gonna get back to work. Or just grab lunch early since there's not much to do." Lee said checking her watch. She left and I went downstairs with the cart. It was pretty chaotic downstairs compared to upstairs. Cops were dragging in some criminals with crazy costumes. I went around collecting the files from some not-so-busy cops.
Until I heard a gunshot.
People were coming in the precinct with costumes similar to the criminals that I saw like 5 minutes ago. They were laughing and fighting with the cops. I heard another gunshot and hid behind a desk. I covered my mouth to muffle my own scream when I saw a dead cop lying next to me. His gun slid in front of me and I stared at it.
My shaky hand picked it up and it was like I stopped freaking out. I peeked my head from behind the desk and quickly ran across. I shot one of the costume guys in the leg, making it easy for the cops to grab him. I ran across once again and was about to shot another guy in the leg when the gun was taken out of my hands. "Hey!" I said turning around only to find Jim looking at me like I was crazy.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" He said, hiding behind the desk with me. "Helping out!" I said, trying to grab the gun. "No. No way. You're gonna go to the back and stay there until I come to get you." Jim ordered me. He started shooting at the guys and I quickly grabbed the gun from his pocket and started shooting too.
Jim got up and tried taking the gun again. "No." I said. "I'm trying to help out you have to trust me." I said. "Trust me." I said again. Jim let go of the gun and nodded his head. "Alright go in the back and check if anyone's there." He said and I nodded my head. I quickly ran to the back and heard laughter coming from the ME room. I opened the door and found Lee tied up to a chair and two guys were with her. I guess she didn't go out for lunch.
They turned around and right before they could do anything I shot them both in the leg. "Don't move!" I warned the guys. I went over to Lee and untied her. She looked a bit scarred. I grabbed the gun and knife that the men had and gave Lee the knife. I put the gun in my pocket and looked around for handcuffs. I grabbed them and handcuffed the guys so they wouldn't escape.
Just as I got up, another guy popped out of nowhere and was about to shoot Lee. I quickly shot him in the stomach and he fell. I grabbed Lee and we went into the file room. I locked the door and we hid behind the desk. "Why do you have guns?" She asked. "I told Jim to trust me into helping." I said. She kept looking at my every move and I rolled my eyes. "I'm not going to shoot you." I told her. She seemed to relax a bit.
We stayed in the room until we didn't hear anymore shooting and laughter and chaos. Lee and I looked at each other and I got up. "Wait-" I quickly signaled for her to stay. I slowly made my way to the door but I saw a blurry figure through the glass window and the door knob rattled. I quickly pulled out my gun and the door was kicked open. It was Jim and I sighed in relief. "Jesus you scarred me. I thought it was still the other guys." I breathed out.
"No it's clear. We managed to arrest them. But now some of them have to go to the hospital for the wounds." He said looking at me. Lee had gotten up and was standing next to me. "We even found your little buddies in the ME room." Jim said. "Was I not suppose to shoot them?" I said. "Well you were defending yourself so I guess it's alright. Besides I shot a couple of them too." He chuckled.
Lee excused herself and left to the ME room. Jim still stayed with me. He cleared his throat and held out his hand. I raised my eyebrow in confusion. "The gun." He said. "Oh." I said, handing him the gun. He left and I went over to the desk. I pulled out the other gun from my back pocket and put it in the drawer where I hid Jerome's file.
As I was organizing more files, Jim came back and gave me the look. "What?" I asked. "Where is it? Hand it over Violet." He said. I knew he was talking about the other gun but decided to mess with him. "Hand what over?" I asked. "You know I'm talking about the gun. Now give it to me. Lee told me you took the gun from one of the guys." Jim said. I sighed and walked over to the desk.
I took out the gun but didn't give it to him. He held out his hand and motioned for me to hand it over. "But what if something like this happens again? I need to defend myself." I said. "And I'll give it back if it happens again but for now hand it over." He said. I huffed and rolled my eyes, handing him the gun. "Thank you." He said, taking the gun and leaving.
