Chapter 3: she's not my mom

I stood frozen into the ground. I couldn't move. How could he be here? I breathed in some air and turned. He was standing lesser then two feet away. I was full aware of our closeness.

"What do you want Cole?" I asked, slightly annoyed. I crossed my arms over my chest. He looked down at me. He had brown/blonde hair with beautiful brown eyes. What, am I saying'?!

"I followed you after school and when you got to your home, you called out a woman named Clarissa, but that woman said you should call her mom. But you answered that since she wasn't your mom, you don't need to call her that. So I wanted to know where you come from, and I know you didn't move here with your mother," when he was finished with his little "speech" I was almost asleep.

Don't blame me, I can't sleep at night. "What?" I said sleepily. He had this 'are you kidding' look. I just huffed and walked away.

"What did that kiss meant to you?" he shouted. I froze. I haven't thought about it like that. I liked it, but I would never dare to say that aloud.

"Nothing," I answered and walked away. It was true. I said I liked it, it doesn't mean it meant something. I would never be together with him, he is just so untrustworthy.

I walked back home. Clarissa was standing over the oven, cooking. I haven't seen her like this before. I walked to her and coughed. She looked up and smiled.

"What are you doing?" I asked it smelled nice. She was about to say something, but the doorbell rang.

"I was going to tell you, but you leaved so quickly and were out in the woods for hours. But we're eating dinner with the neighbors," she said. I nodded and walked to the front door.

I'm sure my hair looked like a mess and I'm not dressed right. I opened and was met by a couple in their forties. I saw a girl in the arms of her mother, she can't be more than four and a boy by her leg, and he must be around nine.

The man looked like someone I knew, but I didn't know who. I smiled and they smiled back.

"Hey!" the woman said. "I'm Laurie, this is my husband Robby, and this is my daughter Liza and my son Caleb." She introduced the people.

"My oldest son is a little late, he was in the forest today, and he's at your age, maybe you know him," she said and I smiled. I said that I maybe did that and let them in.

Clarissa come out and greeted our guests. I sat down at the couch, zoning out from the talking.

"And that's my daughter Melody," I heard Clarissa say. I looked up and smiled. Then she looked at what I was wearing.

"Go and change," she commanded and I walked up. I headed to the bathroom and locked the door. I don't have my own bathroom. I took a short shower, and then I realized I didn't bring my clothes with me.

I tightened the grip on my towel and opened the door. I run out, but knocked to the ground my hard chest. I looked up and saw Cole standing over me, smirking. I glared at him.

Of course when I was in a towel he would come. Then it hit me, why the man looked so familiar. He was Cole's dad.

"I hate you," I murmured before stumping my way to my room. I was about to close it, when he stepped a foot and stopped the door. "What do you want?" I spat at him.

"I need to talk to you," he said with a little hope in his eyes. I chuckled and slammed the door in his face. He opened really quickly after, causing me to stumble.

"I don't want to talk to you, so get the fuck away so I can change!" I yelled angrily. He looked at me in amusement. "So the good girl swears," he said finally. I must have been red in all my face.

"Yes, she does, and if you don't get the fuck out of here she's going to take a knife and cut of your fucking balls," I tried to calm down. Key word, tried.

He looked shocked at me and walked out of my room. When I heard the door close, I breathed out and smiled. Wow, that was easy; I smiled and changed into some purple skinny jeans with a white tank top and a jean jacket. I didn't care about my hair and took on some white converse.

I walked down, and sat beside Clarissa and the seat far away from Cole. He gave me chills and I don't like it. I began to take food on my plate, since they had already started without me.

I have a very good appetite, so I take the double of everyone else. I really stuff my mouth full every time, the stares from the others were very uncomfortable.

"What?" I asked with my mouth full of delicious food. Then Cole started cracking up with laugher. I glared, but he only laughed more.

"I have never seen a girl eat food like that, neither that much," he said, in between laughs. I still glared at him, crossing my arms. I sunk down in the chair.

I looked at Clarissa for help. "Clarissa! Can you get him to shut up?" I asked, but quickly covered my mouth. They weren't supposed to know I don't call her mom.

They looked shocked. "Clarissa? Why do you call her mother Clarissa and not mom?" Robby asked and I looked uneasy.

"Eh, I-I," I couldn't get a word forth. I'm not good at lying, I only lied once, and that was when I was with Cole in the woods.

"Because she's not her daughter," Cole said, getting up from the floor. I looked at him in shock, how could he say that? He smirked at me.

"I accidentally overheard her screaming at her mother, and then she said she doesn't need to call her mom if she isn't," he explained to the confused faces. I looked down at my lap, I couldn't deny it.

"It's true," I whispered. If the truth is first here, I can't help it, but to say it.

"She's not my mom, but I am from Alaska."

I lied to the last part, because I really don't want anyone to know I'm from Norway.

Not now, at least.
