C A R T E R

I heard a tree branch break, and then a scream. I got up from the couch and looked outside to see Brandon dangling from our tree. I walked out to see if he was okay.

"Brandon! Oh my god! Are you okay?" Elly yelled from out her window.

What was happening??

"Brandon? What are you doing in our tree?" I yelled.

He looked up at Elly frantically.

"Uhhh... I was just pretending to be a monkey?"

"Is that a question or an answer?" I sassed.

"Answer. I've been taking acting lessons and one of my assignments was to act like an animal for a day." He said.

I wasn't stupid. I knew he was lying, but I went with it.

"Oh, okay. Well, do you need help?" I asked.

He shook his head and jumped down.

"I'm fine."

He quickly glanced at Elly again, and walked back to his house. Weird. I decided that I was going to have to do some snooping in order to find out what was going on.

"Kaitlyn! I'm coming to your room," I shouted.

I ran upstairs and into her room. She was sitting on her bed with earbuds in, and raised an eyebrow.

She asked, "What do you want?"

"Do you know why Brandon was in our tree?" I asked.

She said, "Did you just say that Brandon was in our tree? You're delusional."

"No, actually, he was just here. Did you not see him?"

"No..."

She said, "But I was literally just in Elly's room. He wasn't there."

I shrugged and said, trying to make her think I knew something she didn't, "Well, Brandon knocked on our door about thirty minutes ago, went up to Elly's room, and I heard them talking. As soon as you came, they stopped talking and started running around her room, probably trying hide him. You went up there, said something to her, and left. When you left, I heard her window open, and next thing I knew, Brandon was in our tree."

"Was she hiding him from me? That's weird."

I shrugged.

"Well, she did come in here to let me listen to her new songs on her ipod. And told me to listen to it loud to 'enjoy it more.''

Then she gave me a suspicious look.

"How did you know that all of that was going on?"

I gulped.

"Well, there's a certain spot in the living room where you can hear everything that's going on in Elly's room."

She raised her eyebrows again.

"Can you hear what we're saying?"

I shook my head, "Barely."

She said, "Good."

I left Kaitlyn's room to go to mine, sat on my bed, and just thought about my life. I decided that that would be enough snooping for the day, and somehow fell asleep.
