Molly is in this chapter....just saying
Dan's POV:
"NO! I DON'T WANT TO!!" Kyle screams as I try to get him out of the house. It's been a week since Phil left. Ever since, Kyle hasn't wanted to behave. His autism is kicking in.
"Sweetie. I just want to go out and have some fun with you!!" I kneel to his level. All the experts say to handle autism a certain way. But I feel like that never works. Especially when they grab the to make them calm down. That's just not right. You don't treat someone without autism that way, why should you treat someone who can't even understand what's happening that way?
"NO!" He hits my hand.
"Why not?" He just kicks and screams. "Baby! Use your words! Deep breathes baby!" I say while demonstrating how to Do it.
"NO!" He screams again.
"Hey!" I smile and run to his room. Grabbing his dinosaur and coming back to him.
"You want dino?" I ask.
He stares and nods. "Yeah?" I stand up. "You have to behave then." yes. I'm bribing him, but until we get professional help. This works.
"Rwar!!" He stands up and grabs the dinosaur and goes out to the door. Locking the door behind us, Kyle comes up and pulls on my shirt. "Yes Kyle?" I ask looking down.
He smiles and puts his arms out. "Up!"
I smile and pick him up.
We get to the shopping center and just walk around for a bit. I wanted to go out just to do something fun with him, maybe get some ice cream, see a movie at the cinema, get Kyle a new toy since we're trying to get as many toys as we can for him. Just have the day for fun.
Half way through the shopping trip, we were in a general store. I needed more cereal. Dammit Phil.
I still had Kyle in my arms since I didn't want him to get lost. And he didn't want to walk.
He was playing with his dinosaur on my shoulders when he dropped it on the floor. "Oops!" He says. I look down and chuckle at his reaction. When a little girl with blue hair came up "I got it." the voice sounded familiar...too familiar. She looks up as she hands me the dinosaur.
I can't believe it...I can't believe my eyes. I thought she was in Manchester. "Molly..." I choke out.
She stares...then runs away. "Molly wait!" I can't chase after her. See. Like I said to Phil.
She.
Does.
Not.
Care.
We got home around 5 o'clock at night. I had Kyle's dinosaur and he had an ice cream. His face was covered in chocolate when he was done with it. I put him down at the table and grab a wash cloth.
He would not stop moving his head when I tried to get the chocolate off. Eventually did though.
We already ate dinner at a restaurant where Kyle behaved pretty well. He did have 1 temper tantrum though over his dinosaur. I said he can't have his dinosaur at the table because it is impolite.
I did leave the restaurant early as some guy obviously doesn't understand mental illness.
Kyle was doing things that's not uncommon for kids with autism to do. He was rocking back and forth in his seat. I didn't mind because Phil used to do that and it's normal for kids his age to do that anyways. Autism or not. But he kept repeating things, which also to me, didn't bug me. I understand he that He doesn't know how to comprehend what is going on in the world. Or He doesn't understand how to be polite or do a simple task.
But when he kept repeating things over and over again the guy next to us asked if we could leave.
"Excuse me? Do you have a problem?" I asked as he is it asked if out of no where.
"Your child! Do you even know how to be a parent?"
"Yes, I do! What is so wrong with my child that you can not ignore?" I ask while giving Kyle his dinosaur.
"He needs to stop saying things over and over again. And that chair is making noise when ever he moves. It's annoying everyone in the restaurant!"
"Um..." I laugh. "No one else besides you seems to be annoyed. Please leave us alone because my son cant control of. Please educate your self on autism."
"Well." He starts. "Were you told he was going to have autism?"
"Yes..." I sounded skeptical.
"Then why didn't you abort him? Terminate the pregnancy?"
"Well sir, if you must know. Abortion in my opinion is wrong. And he was adopted. I do not have a wife. And he is fine the way he is."
"If you don't have a wife, then is there a wedding ring on your hand?"
I look down...remembering Phil. Then...he said the thing that made me pissed off. "Wait...are you...gay? Do you have a husband?" He laughs. "No wonder you adopted! Desperate people like you want a kid! Even if they are autistic!"
That. That right there. That's when I called the waitress over for my check. Kyle had finished his food and so had I. We left immediately.
I just can't believe it.
But once we got home and I cleaned Kyle is his ice cream, I got into Netflix and turned on finding nemo. He got into his pajamas and pulled his duvet off his bed into the lounge. He cuddled up onto my lap and watched the movie.
8:30. Bed time for Kyle.
Kyle was still up watching sponge Bob. I walk into the lounge and speak, "Time for Bed!"
He looks at me. "No..."
"And why not?"
"Tv!" He says and points to it.
"You can watch more sponge Bob tomorrow morning. I promise!" I grab the remote and turn off the tv. "Bed!"
"NO!" Kyle screams.
"Baby...do you want to sleep with daddy in daddys bed?"
"NO BED!" He starts to cry and grab his dinosaur. Running and hiding in a closet.
Do autistic kids do this or do all kids this?
I open the closet where he is hugging and crying into his dinosaur.
I kneel to his level. "Baby. Why not?"
He just keep crying. "Baby, use your words please."
"N-n-not t-t-tired." He sobs.
"Yes, but it's bed time. And daddy is tired." I put out a hand. "You can come sleep in my bed! And tomorrow and we'll get ice cream!"
Yes bribing. Again. IT WORKS PEOPLE OKAY?!
"Ice cream?"
"Yes. But you have to go to bed now."
"Can dino get shirt?"
Odd request...but I'm sure I can get to build a bear and get a shirt meant for a stuffed animal. And if not I'll just get Baby clothes and make shirts out of those.
"Sure."
"Promise?" He says.
"Promise!" I smile and pick him up.
"NEH!" He screams as I put my hands on his back.
I put him down...."what's wrong?"
"Cold!"
"Oh, yes, my hands are cold. Here." I pick him up by his legs instead. He laughs and tries to swat me away. I carry him to my room and I get into my nice pajamas.
I put on the cannula and turn off the light.
Kyle climbed on me. Why are tiny humans so heavy?
"Kyle....lay down please."
"Dad..." He whispers.
"What?"
"I'm scared."
I stroke my hair. "Don't worry. I'm hear." He starts to lightly hit me. As if he is paying a game or waving his hands like he does a lot.
I didn't mind since he does this anyways.
He then started make a lot of mouth noises. Which I absolutely hate. Probably the one things I can't stand.
"Kyle, please stop that."
But he doesn't. I try not to get too mad as he doesn't Probably doesn't know He is doing it.
Then shuffling and slight shift changes in the duvet.
Then. A faint whisper. "Dino..."
I turn on the light. KYLE IS IN THE MOTHER FUCKING HALL WAY. WTF.
"Kyle..." I take off the cannula and go to him. "What are you doing?"
"Dino!!" He runs to his room and grabs the dinosaur jumping back into bed.
Finally. A good night sleep
