Dan's POV:
It's been 2 months since we adopted Kyle. I miss Molly so much.
Today we've booked an appointment with a therapist. She has a 5 star rating on yelp. Yes I looked for a therapist for my autistic son on yelp. I'm Dan okay?!
"Phil! Let's go!! We're going to be late!" I say as I finish writing the check for the therapist. I don't have insurance so I have to pay upfront.
We get to the car and drive 5 miles south. The doctors office for kids with down syndrome, autism, any type of mental illness.
Kyle runs to the elevator. "Buttons!" He shouts.
"Yup!" Phil chuckles as we walk into the elevator. "Press number 4." Kyle does so and jumps up and down.
I just love him so much. He is so precious. When ever I look at him...all my suicidal thoughts, Molly, my depression, it fades away.
We come up to the counter and I'm greeted by a very nice lady. "Hello sir," She smiles. "May I help you?"
"Yes. I'm here for a therapist for my son."
"Your sons name?"
"Kyle Howell-Lester."
She looks through certain files. "Yes. Here. Please follow me, the therapist always likes to speak with the parents the first few minutes!" She takes her files and leads us to the therapist.
"Dr.Lewis, your 1 o'clock appointment has just arrived."
"Yes! Yes come in!" She smiles and leads us inside. The lady puts down the files on the therapists desk and leaves. Kyle climbs into Phil and nuzzles his head into his chest.
"Hello, I'm Dr.Lewis." She starts. "And you are?"
"Dan. That's Phil. And this little guy his Kyle."
"Amazing." She picks up the files and starts to talk after looking through them. "Alright. I see that Kyle is adopted?"
"Yes, we adopted him two months ago."
"Alright. Now looking at these papers. Your name is Howell. And his name is lester. But Kyle's name is Howell-Lester." She starts. "I don't want to make any offensive comments I just need to know..."
Here we go. Yes we are gay.
"Are you two married...to eachother?"
"Yes." Phil says quickly.
"Alright. Thank you. Now, Kyle, is there any thing you notice about his autism?"
I look up trying to think. "He likes to move around in his seat a lot! He talks slowly, waves his hands, and repeats his speech."
"Alright. And his sensory issues? Any thing about that?"
"He can not sleep with a shirt on. He doesn't like any sudden movements involving him in contact. He freaks out when touched by water."
"Okay. Okay. So now I can evaluate with this information on how we go about his therapy sessions. Now, does he go to school?"
"We're debating if we want him home schooled or public."
"I suggest public. It develops great social skills with other kids and will make him so much better at comprehending on what goes on!"
"Alright. We'll consider." Phil nods.
After the appointment we stopped on the way home to get ice cream. Kyle and Phil got chocolate and I just got a small soda. I wasn't in the mood for ice cream.
Maybe I'll try again.
Ring ring.
Ring ring.
Ring ring.
Ring Ring.
"Hello?" Wait...this isn't her voice mail. But it isn't her either.
"Hi..." I shyly choke out.
"Who is this?" They ask. Its her dad.
"Um...Dan. Daniel."
"And you are calling why?"
"To say hi to Molly."
"How about you leave her the Fuck alone and get out of my daughter's life."
"You were the one who put her up for adoption anyways!"
"Shut the Fuck up Howell."
He then hung up. My life. My heart. It shattered into pieces.
