Boarding up windows and a reveal of feelings

(A/n: before we start. You the reader is like Mai. She lives at home alone because she lost both of her parents. (Sorry if this effects any of you in a bad way))

~(y/n)'s pov~ (the opening and closing of the first season of ghost hunt)

after being asked by Naru to do something for him. Me, John and Mai all went back to the old schoolhouse. "Mai I want you to set up a camera in the classroom on the second floor. (Y/n) I want you to board up all of the windows and once Mai has finished setting up the camera I want you to board up the door to the classroom. John I want you to help her." Said Naru.
"Okay well I'll just get the camera and start setting it up then." Said Mai.

She grabbed the camera and went up to the second floor to the classroom the chair is in. "I better start boring up the windows then." I said turning on my heal and picking up the hammer and walking put of the door. "I'll help you mate." Said John behind me.

~John's pov~

Mai just left with the camera and (y/n) was leaving to board up the windows. 'She shouldn't do it by herself. Not that I don't think she can do it, she probably can.' I thought.

I pick up the other hammer and turn around. "I'll help you mate." I said. 'Why did I say mate? I could have just said her name.' I thought.

I followed (y/n) up to the second floor where there were loads of boards. Window size. There were also a lot and I mean a lot of nails.

I watched as (y/n) picked up one of the boards and some nails and put it over one of the windows. "Hey here I'll hold the board while you put some nails in it to gold it there." I said.

She looked at me and smiled. Only it was a broken kind of smile. 'This isn't like her to show that she is upset about something.' I thought.

I helped hold the board while (y/n) hammered a few nails into each of the corners. I then went and got a board and started boarding up the windows with (y/n)

~time skip. Brought you to the end of boarding everything up~

"Glad this is over. Can I go now?" Said (y/n).
"No not yet. I want you and John to sign all of the boards." Said Kazuya. "Okay." I replied.

I took two pens and handed one of them to (y/n). She took it and smiled at me, but again the smile was a broken smile. 'I'll talk to her about what is upsetting her after this.' I thought.

(Y/n) and I started signing all of the boards. Around 10 minutes later all the boards were signed and we were all leaving the schoolhouse.

~(y/n)'s pov~

I was outside with the others and I noticed John looking at me a bit concerned.

I walked over to him "is everything okay?" I asked him.
"I should really be asking you that question." He replied.

I looked at him confused. "You haven't been yourself. You have been... well upset. I don't know what about, but I'm concerned." John continued. I looked at him shocked that he noticed that I wasn't myself today.
"It's nothing. I just had a bad day. I would say I'll go back to classes, but school has just finished for me now anyway." I said trying to change the subject, but I could tell that John wasn't going to change the subject until he knew what was really wrong. 'Should I tell him, or should I just make something up. Think (y/n). Boyfriend broke up with me.' I thought frantically hoping that I wouldn't have to explain what is wrong.
"Tell me what is wrong. I could help. That is if I can." Said John.
'Great.' I thought.
"Okay. My boyfriend broke up with me this morning and I am really upset about it." I replied.

Hoping that he wouldn't see through it and tell it was a lie. "Oh. I see. I should have guessed you wouldn't be single." John replied.
"What?" I asked hoping I didn't hear what he just said wrong.

~Mai's pov~

I was stood near the schoolhouse entrance when I noticed John and (y/n) talking about something.

I didn't want to be that kind of person who upset others by listening in to their conversation, I wanted to know if there was something going on between her and John. 'Okay Mai think. How would I make it look like I want listening. I could play a game on my phone, or I could look for signal to message one of my friends.' I thought.

I pulled out my phone and walked a little closer and started playing candy crush (only game I could think of).

I knew I was at a good distance because I could hear what they were saying. "Tell me what is wrong. I could help. This is if I can." John said.
'That's sweet.' I thought.
"Okay. My boyfriend broke up with me this morning and I am really upset about it." Said (y/n).
'What. She had a BOYFRIEND. Why didn't she tell me?' I thought.
"Oh. I see. I should have guessed you wouldn't be single." Said John.
'Wait did I hear that right. You have to be kidding me. John has a crush on (y/n).' I thought.
"What?" I heard (y/n) ask. She sounded just as shocked as I felt.
"It was nothing. Don't worry about it." John said.
'Nice try. I'm so totally going to talk to you about how long you have had this crush in her for John Brown.' I thought.

"It's rood to listen into someone else's conversation." Said Naru.
"Who said I was listening to someone's conversation." I asked. "The look on your face." Replied Naru. 'Why do I like you?' I thought.
