Killian's POV
Emma and I headed downstairs for dinner at the same time. I tried to hold her hand but she pulled away before I could. I tried not to take it personally. I knew she was doing it because she was terrified if the 2 of us were affectionate in anyway in front of my parents they'd get upset.
I honestly didn't care if it pissed them off, but I knew how important it was for her to make a good impression, so I let it slide. After my sly move sneaking into the shower with her, I was gonna have to behave for the rest of the night.
Liam was supposed to come later tonight. He was driving all the way from Dublin. I'm shocked Mum and Dad hadn't hired someone to drive him around. I wasn't exactly thrilled about my brother coming. He was a total playboy in high school, and I'm sure college had made him even more of one.
He was a 'hump and dump' kind of guy. He treated women like they were possessions. I didn't want him setting his sights on my beautiful Swan. I wouldn't put it past the arrogant bastard. And if he tried, I was gonna make one thing perfectly clear. Emma was mine.
I was probably overreacting, though. Liam was an ass, but I hoped he had the decency to not hit on his brother's girlfriend. For his face's sake he better not. I got jealous when a random guy walking by looked at Emma the wrong way.
I could sense that Mum was a little standoffish towards Emma when they'd first met. Mum had always been a prude, but hopefully dinner would make her loosen up.
When we got to the dining room, I pulled out Emma's chair for her. Mum was arranging a bouquet for the table, and Dad was already at the head of the table reading the paper. Emma gave me a swift peck on the cheek when she saw no one looking, and smiled as she sat down.
I grabbed her hand from under the table, and this time she let me.
"Emma, this is Johanna, our housekeeper. She used to be my nanny, too," I introduced, smiling up at Johanna as she brought out the food and placed it on the table.
"It's so nice to finally meet you, Emma," she greeted warmly. "Killian has told me so much about you. You're even prettier than he said."
Emma blushed and smiled up at Johanna. "It's very nice to meet you, too. Killian never told me he had a nanny."
"Well, he's not one to brag," she chuckled. "Besides, I'm sure he was too busy drooling over you all the time to have mentioned me. Every time I talk to him on the Skype, or whatever that contraption is called, he's always so smitten."
I rolled my eyes as I felt my face turn red. I couldn't really argue with Johanna, she was completely right. Emma smiled at me and giggled.
Johanna and I had always been close. She'd practically raised me, since Dad was always at work, and Mum had her group of snobby gal pals to entertain.
In the months after my falling out with Mum and Dad, I'd stayed in contact with Johanna. She'd constantly checked up on me to see how I was holding up. I'd always been able to trust and confide in her more than my own parents and brother. She was the only person I'd ever truly opened up to until my Swan came along.
"Johanna, why don't you fetch us some drinks?" Dad suggested, clearing his throat. "Make mine a scotch on the rocks." I rolled my eyes. Dad could be such a pompous dick at times.
"Of course, sir," Johanna nodded. "Emma, what would you like, sweetheart?"
"Oh, um, I'll have a ginger ale. But you don't have to get it for me, I can do it," Emma answered, feeling awkward having someone wait on her.
