Emma's POV

Killian and I had been staying with his parents for the last 2 weeks. Mr. Jones was not nearly as uptight as his wife, he'd warmed up to me more than she had. But at times he treated me like a common street rat. Like they were royalty, and I was some peasant getting a free ride.

Whenever he would discuss his work, recent cases at the hospital he'd had to deal with, I think he purposely used big, fancy words to make me feel stupid and uneducated. But then again, maybe it wasn't just me he did that to. He seemed like the type of man who liked to make others around him feel insignificant, and make himself look intellectually superior.

Mrs. Jones continued her assault with her insulting, clever little comments about me, like the one she'd made at dinner my first night here. She'd been making ones lately hinting that the only reason I was with Killian was because of the money.

That one really pissed me off. I wasn't some gold digging tramp who was trying to get my hooks into him so I could feed off his family's fortune like a leech. I loved Killian for so many reasons, especially for 3 very important ones, and money wasn't one of them.

The first, he always knew how to make me smile and laugh without even trying. The second, he was so sweet and kind to me like no man ever had been before. And the third, he loved me unconditionally, and had never judged me for my past. He'd become the sunshine in my oh so cloudy life.

Not to mention the sex was amazing, that was another very good reason. But the old hag didn't need to know about the serious skills her son had in the bedroom. I didn't kiss and tell.

Things were still pretty uncomfortable with Liam. He constantly flirted with me, and he wasn't subtle about it. I'm surprised Killian hadn't kicked his teeth in yet. I would've. Killian made sure to be right by my side whenever Liam came around. Not because he didn't trust me, it was his sleazy brother he was wary of.

It was pretty cute how ridiculously overprotective and possessive he was being of me. He was hot when he was jealous. But he had absolutely no reason to be. They might be brothers, but Killian was right. Him and Liam were nothing alike. I preferred sexy, lovable dorks to playboy man whores who hit on their brother's girlfriend.

At least I had Johanna. She technically wasn't a member of the family but she was the only one I enjoyed being around. I'd been helping her cook and clean around the house. The poor woman. This place was humongous. I don't know how she'd managed to take care of it all by herself when Killian left. The other 3 Jones sure as hell didn't help lift a finger.

Killian and I were heading to the beach for the day. We'd left early in the morning, while everyone was
still asleep. A whole 6 hours without having to deal with my boyfriend's horrid family. Killian even seemed relived to be escaping them for awhile. I felt so bad for my adorable dork, these last few weeks had been even harder on him than me.

He'd hoped this trip would've eased the already building tension between us and his parents, but it had made it worse. Mr. and Mrs. Jones didn't even seem to be trying to make a good impression with me. His parents had obvious distaste for me, and they didn't seem to have any intentions of hiding it. The same could be said for Liam flirting with me.

His family could at least attempt to quit being a bunch of snobby assholes and act like normal, friendly people for Killian's sake. They knew how much he wanted for all of us to like each other and get along. Killian deserved better than this. I was doing my best to play nice with his parents, but they had to give a little too. I just didn't see that happening, though.
