Luke’s POV
Through my window I watch as a cab pulls up to the house two doors down. A mom and two girls step out and make their way inside. One girl looks young with short brown hair. The other looks about my age, with the same color brown hair but longer. Her features a bit blurry to me in the distance, but I know she’s pretty.
“Oi! Luke! Quit creeping on the new neighbors! You’ll scare them away!” Ashton yells. I laugh but back away from the window, going back to my rowdy band mates. Every summer since I can remember my family rents a beach house about an hour from where we live. This summer they are letting me, Ash, Calum and Michael stay here by ourselves while we write some stuff for our EP. “Lads! Let’s go eat, I’m starving!” We all agree with Ashton and head out to the local restaurant within walking distance.
“Hey Lukey!” Jazmin calls. Jazmin used to go to school with me, Cal and Michael. She has always had a thing for me. She’s pretty; I’m not going to lie. But god, she is downright annoying! I half smile half wave at her. It sucks that her dad owns the place and she works as a hostess. Her bright blonde hair is in an impossibly high ponytail that swishes back and forth as she leads us to our table. “Here you guys go!” she says way too excitedly. When she finally leaves Calum and Michael are snickering across the table.
“Oh shove it, will you?” They know how much I hate her and think it’s hilarious.
Later that night I can’t sleep to save my life. It’s weird though. I never have issues sleeping. I sigh and slip on a pair of sweats and an old band tee. I walk straight down to the beach, the dark ocean stretching on into infinity. Off in the distance to the right a small figure sits in the sand watching me. I can sort of make out her figure, the girl from this morning. We stare at each other for ages before I pace inside grabbing my writing notebook, suddenly inspired.
Brooklyn’s POV
A lot has happened in the last year. Let me recap for you. I had an older brother, . Yes you read right. Had. He committed suicide nine months ago. He was my best friend. We did everything together. I didn’t even know he was depressed. As a result of that it tore my family apart. Literally. My parents were constantly fighting. They filed for divorce three months later. I chose to live with my mom we always got along better. We all needed to get away from it all. So we chose a place far, far away. Australia.
The cab speeds towards the beach house we are renting for three months. I watch the houses, cars, trees and people go rushing by. I close my eyes in attempt to stop my overactive brain. I don’t even notice we arrived and my mom is yelling my name.
“Brooklyn! Brooklyn, get out of the car! We’re here!” Stepping out of the cab I shove my Iphone into my back pocket and make my way to the trunk to grab my suitcase. Taking in the massive house before me, I sigh and walk inside. Sometimes I really hate my family’s money. I’m much more the starving artist, living in a flat type.
“I call this bedroom!” my little sister Mae yells from the first bedroom off the stairs. I slowly make my way down the hall peeking inside each room. I settle on the back bedroom facing the ocean with a gorgeous balcony. The room is spacious with it’s own bathroom. I throw my suitcase on the floor and collapse onto the bed letting sleep take over not even caring about jetlag.
3:03AM the clock on my phone reads, and I’m wide-awake. Fuck. Knowing I won’t be sleeping anytime soon I dig around in my back for a pair of leggings, one of my brothers old hoodies and my favorite red beanie. Quietly making my way downstairs and out the back door and straight to the beach. Plopping in the sand I stare at the ocean, or well the blackness that is the ocean. The only light is the moons reflection. The only sound is the waves kissing the shore. Out of the corner of my eye I spot a tall figure in a trance by the water same as me. I can’t make out much other than it’s a male. Their frame shifts towards me. I continue to stare for a while before they turn heading back towards the houses.
