Brooklyn’s POV
I make my way over to Luke’s down the beach. Loud music blares from the porch. How am I supposed to find any of the guys? I make my way through the sea of people trying to find one of them. “Brooklyn! Hey!” A female voice shouts. Turning around I see a small girl with short dark hair. I think she’s Michael’s girlfriend.
“Harley, right?”
“Yea! It’s good to see you again!”
“You too! Have you seen the guys?”
“Not since it started.” She shrugs and looks around.
“Well, well, well.” Jazmin enters our conversation uninvited.
“What do you want, Jazmin?” Harley’s voice is dripping with disgust.
“Just to talk to Brooklyn here. Make sure she knows what she’s getting into.”
“Getting into with what?”
“Luke. Being with a band member. They are already starting to get famous. The fans will hate you!” She puts extra emphasis on the word hate. Her words cut me, and she knows it. “You know, you should say something. You’re acting like a freak!” Her eyes stare into mine.
“What?”
“You know, a freak. Like what everyone at your school called you, you remember right?” How did she know that? I feel like she kicked the air from my lungs. “Google is amazing!” She laughs in my face. I push past her and head upstairs ignoring Harley calling my name. I lock myself in Luke’s room. Tears threaten to spill over. I pull my phone out of my pocket and search 5 seconds of summer on twitter. I got so many results; mostly girls panicking when they do something. I see my name a few times, nothing major. Some of it is nice, making my fear fade. But then the hate rolls in. I can’t hold the tears anymore. Girls telling me I don’t deserve Luke, and that I need to leave. Some even go as far as to say I should hurt myself.
“Brooks?” Luke knocks on the door. “I know you’re in there, Harley told me you came up here.” I close my phone and wipe my face.
“Hey, I just needed some space from the party.”
“You sure you’re ok?” He sits down on the bed with me. “Harley told me what Jazmin said. Don’t worry about her, ok?”
“Yea, no. I know. It’s fine. Let’s go back downstairs.” I take his hand and tug him out of his room. Luke grabs us both a red cup filled with beer. I chug mine in no time. “Dance with me!” I drag him to the dance area and swing my hips against his. A few songs later we get away from the sweaty bodies. Back in Luke’s room I waste no time. I have already made up my mind. I need to feel him one last time.
Luke’s POV
I’m not sure what’s up with Brooklyn tonight. She seems distant. I fall asleep with her head on my bare chest, but when I wake that weight is gone. In place of her there is a note.
Luke,
I’m sorry. This summer has been amazing. But it’s for the best. I can’t do this. You’re going to do amazing things with your music, but I need to find me. I love you, please know that. I will never forget this summer.
-Brooklyn
I can’t breathe. It feels like she punched my stomach with a brick. How are we better off? I need her. I love her. I stare down at my arm and the ink on it. “Fuck!” I yell and throw my pillow across the room. It knocks over some of my clothes and one of my guitars. I run out of my room, past the guys in the living room, and down the street. I need to see if she’s still here. After banging on the door for two minutes, it’s official. She’s gone.
Just had some free time so I thought I'd get this up for you guys! Comments and votes are appreciated!! :) Not sure when the next update will be, but I'll be home by the end of next week so around then! xo -Rachel
