Brooklyn’s POV

I woke up late the next morning to my mom banging on the door. “Brooklyn! It is 11:30 am! You can’t just sleep all day!” I groan and roll over to chuck a pillow at the door. “Mae wants to look for seashells along the beach. You need to go with her! Be downstairs in a half hour!” She chirps. Sighing I climb out of bed and to the bathroom to shower. A half hour later I am downstairs as requested in my favorite light wash short shorts, a cut off with the word namaste written on the front and my long hair down.

“Mae! Let’s go!” I yell into the living room where she is watching spongebob. Yea, she’s 15 and still watches cartoons. I shove my aviators on my face as we step outside. Of course Mae turns and goes the direction of four boys. Two in the water messing around, two sitting in the sand. One I recognize his outline from last night. I bend down to help Mae search. The water laps up over my feet taking some sand with it uncovering a bunch of rocks and seashells. I look over at the group of boys and one is staring right at me. His blonde hair sticks straight up, his broad shoulders shown off by the tank he’s wearing. He is make your heart stop attractive. I don’t even notice I’m holding my breath until Mae is snapping her fingers in front of my face and repeating my name. “What?” I snap out of it.

“What were you staring at?”

“Oh um nothing!” I shake it off and quickly turn my attention back to the sand.

“I’m going back to the house to clean these off,” Mae announces a half-hour later.

“Ok, I’m just gonna stay here. Tell mom I’ll be home in a bit.” She nods and jogs off towards the beach house. Resuming the same position as last night I stare out at the now visible ocean. God it is so gorgeous. Everything is so bright and fresh compared to home. Home is New York for me. Everything there is so noisy and fast paced. I love it. But right now I don’t want to be anywhere else. I wish I could just let the massive body of water take me and float me away. A tall figure stands over me blocking my sun. I look up into the gorgeous blue eyes of mystery boy. He is even better looking up close. His lips curl into a smirk creaking a dimple in one of his cheeks.

            “Hi,” he finally says.

Luke’s POV

She is prettier up close just like I thought. Her eyes are this amazing green, like an emerald but with flecks of brown. Her nose is cute and tine with a silver stud through it. I didn’t exactly know how to start or what to say. So I went with the great innovative line of, “hi.”

“Oh um hi,” her eyes darting away from mine. Oh, she’s American. I wonder what she’s doing down here.

“My names Luke. I’m staying at that beach house just over there.” I point behind me and just to the right.

“I’m Brooklyn, and I’m at that one two doors down.”

“Brooklyn. “ I repeat. “Like Brooklyn, New York?” I’ve never been to America before but Brooklyn is just one of those iconic cities you always hear about.

“Born and raised!” She smiles up at me. “You know your blocking my sun, Luke.” My name sounds a lot better coming from her lips than anyone I’ve heard. I sit down in the sand next to her, not too close but not too far away either.

“So Brooklyn from Brooklyn, what brings you to this side of the world?”

“Just life I guess. We’re only here till August.” The tone of her voice hints that she is holding back a lot.

“Cool. So were you the one I saw out here last night?”

“You ask a lot of questions for having just met me!” She laughs.

That’s just it! We have just met and I want to know about you!” She stays quiet for a while just staring at the ocean with a look I can’t place.

“You ever wonder what it would be like to just let the ocean take you away?” she suddenly asks.

“All the time,” I answer honestly. Brooklyn turns her gaze towards me with a small smile.

“Luke! C’mon mate! We gotta go!” Ashton’s loud voice break the moment and I mentally kill him.

“I’m really sorry I gotta go. But I’ll see you around?” Brooklyn nods before I run off towards my obnoxious friends.
