Brooklyn’s POV

He had literally waited out there for me all night. “Be downstairs and ready in an hour and a half!” My mom knocks on my door, scaring me away from the window.

“Ok,” I call back. Quickly I take my hair out of the French braid it was in, leaving it wavy. I throw on a pair of high waisted shorts and Aztec print tank.

“Where are you going? We need to leave soon!” my mom asks as I’m on my way out the door.

“I know! I just need to do something quick!” I make my way down the street to Luke’s, not really sure of what I’m going to say. But he deserves an explanation. I’m not ready to tell him everything yet.

“Hey Brooks!” Calum smiles when he opens their front door. “Does anyone call you that?”

            “Um, no. You’re the first.”

“Well then I’m going to start calling you that!” I really don’t have a problem with it and he seems so proud of himself.

            “Alright! Is Luke here?”

“Yea, he’s in his room. Third door on the left!”

“Thanks!” I walk up the stairs and knock on his door. I hear him get up.

“Calum! For the last time I don’t want to cuddl-oh Brooklyn.” He seems shocked when he finds me standing there.

“You cuddle with Calum?” I call him out on the first half of his sentence.

“Uh er yea sometimes. It’s not weird, I swear!”

“Can I come in and talk to you for a sec?” He nods and moves to let me into his room. It’s messy, typical boy, with a suitcase in the corner spilling over with clothes. “I feel like I owe you an explanation of what happened yesterday.” I start.

“Um yea, you do.” I sit awkwardly

“Ok, I just have this weird thing about music.”

“You don’t like music?!” He seems personally hurt.

“Um well no, not really. But I have reasons. I’m just not comfortable talking about it.” I tell him honestly. None of what I said was a lie but I didn’t tell all of the truth.

“Ok. I won’t make you talk about it. But when you’re ready I’ll listen. You can tell me anything, ok?” I nod, close to tears. No one has taken the time to listen to me in the past six months. “I really like you, Brooklyn.” He tucks a strand of wavy hair behind my ear.

“I really like you too, Luke. But it’s only been a week. Are we crazy?”

“Only the best people are,” he smiles down at me. I smile back at his Alice in wonderland reference. “Wanna hang out today?”

“I can’t. I actually have to go.” He looks confused, and slightly hurt. “Just something I have to do with my mom.”

“Oh ok. Um I’ll see you later then?”

“Yea, definitely.” I wrap my arms around his torso for a long hug before leaving. I pass Calum, Michael and Ashton sitting on the couch on my way out.

“Bye Brooks!” He yells after me.

            “Bye Calum!”

Luke’s POV

Knock Knock. I huff and get off my bed to open the door. Expecting it to be Calum, I’m surprised to see Brooklyn. My heart starts to race, how does she already have this affect on me? “Um can I come in and talk to you for a second?” She asks. I move a bit so she can come farther into my room. I watch as she sits on the end of my bed, I stay standing close to the door.

“I feel like I owe you an explanation for yesterday.”

“Um yea, you do.” I really, really need to know what the hell that was. I have been giving myself a headache trying to figure it out.

“Ok, I have this weird thing about music,” Brooklyn says slowly. What does that even mean?

            “So you hate music?”

“Um well no not really.” Music is my life how could I fall for someone who hates music? “But I have reasons, I’m just not comfortable talking about it.” Well that’s confusing. But I don’t want to push her away.

“Ok. I won’t make you talk about it. But when you’re ready I’ll listen. You can tell me anything, ok?” I tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. “I really like you, Brooklyn.”

“I really like you too, Luke.” My heart leaps when she says that. “But it’s only been a week. Are we crazy?”

“Only the best people are,” I tell her with a smile. I honestly do feel crazy at how attracted to her I am already. When she makes up some weird excuse not to hang today I’m a little skeptical. Not that I don’t want to believe her, but with how vague she was with the whole music thing, something doesn’t add up. I just don’t want to push her and make her freak out again. I will change her opinion on music, that I am determined to do.

“So why’d she freak out yesterday?” Ashton asks when I flop onto the couch next to him.

“Apparently she hates music,” I sigh.

“What?” they all look at me with wide eyes.

            “I know. I don’t get it either.”

“So she hates music so much that she froze and ran away? That seems like a really exaggerated response,” Calum points out. “Dude, something seems off, like she’s lying.”

“Yea I know, I thought that too. But I’m going to believe her until she gives me more of a reason not to.”

“You know how cool we think she is, but be careful ok? We don’t want you to get hurt, not that she will but yea, just please be careful Luke.” Ashton warns me. His words mixed with her actions and words start to make me paranoid.
