Brooklyn’s POV

“So do you like just watch for when I come out here?” I question Luke when for the third night in a row he plants his butt in the sand next to me at 3am. This time he’s closer, our legs practically touching.

“No. I swear I’m not that creepy! I’d like to think it’s great minds think alike.” He grins at me.

“Smooth. So what brings you out here at these awful hours of the night?” I mean I know why I come out here, but Luke doesn’t seem as troubled as me.

“Can’t sleep for like the last week. It’s weird,” he shrugs like it’s no big deal. “What about you?”

“Um same I guess.” He does not need to know about my brother right now. Or maybe ever.

“Well aren’t we a pair?” Luke laughs. I can’t help but smile. His laugh is this deep throaty one that doesn’t fit how he looks. Sure he is probably like 6ft tall and broad shoulders, but he’s got a baby face.

“We certainly are!” Finally some time later my eyes begin to droop and I instinctively lean my head on Luke’s shoulder. One of his arms wraps around my back holding me tightly. Even though I have just met him, I feel safe with Luke. Almost normal. He gives off this incredibly comfortable vibe. It’s hard to explain.

“I should go,” I whisper to Luke knowing I’ll soon be asleep on his shoulder. That would be embarrassing. I slowly move out of Luke’s hold and stand up.

“Well I’ll see you tomorrow night then?” He jokes.

“Most likely.” I give him a wave before walking back up the beach to the house.

Luke’s POV

I’m shocked when Brooklyn lays her head on my shoulder. I feel like my insides are turning upside down from her touch. I wrap my right arm around her waist to bring her close. This moment right here, is the happiest I’ve been in a while. Sure, I was stoked when we started writing and making our EP, but something was missing. I guess it was Brooklyn.

“With Brooklyn again?” Michael scares the shit out of me when I walk into the living room.

“Dude! Don’t do that! But yea, I was.”

            “Find out anymore?”

“Nope. But I’m gonna keep going out there every night till she opens up.”

“I hope she comes around for you mate.”

            “Thanks, night.”

“Michael! Let’s go!” Ashton yells up the stairs.

            “I’m coming!” He runs downstairs.

“Finally! My stomach was about to eat it’s self!” Calum jokes and we all head out of the house to walk to the diner. On the way down the driveway we run into Brooklyn. She’s got on a teal skirt, and a crop top showing part of her stomach. I feel my face blush and hope it’s not notice able.

“Oh hey Luke!” she speaks up.

“Hey! You look different in the day light!” I tease. Her eyes light up with her laugh. It’s very cute and distracting.

“Likewise.” We stand there a bit awkwardly till Ash clears his throat.

“Oh right. These are my mates Calum, Michael and Ashton. Guys, this is Brooklyn.” They all say hey’s or hi’s.

“Nice to meet you guys.” She shyly smiles.

“If you’re not busy we are going for lunch if you want to come.” I offer, having no idea where my sudden confidence came from.

“Oh um I don’t know. I don’t want to impose.”

“You’re not! We wanna grill you about America!” Calum assures her.

            “Alright then.”

“So how awesome is America?”  Ashton asks her the second after we order our food. I’m squished in a booth between Calum and Brooklyn.

“Um it’s ok. Nothing special.” She shrugs.

“Where are you from?” Cal asks.

            “New York.”

“Wicked!” The rest of lunch goes smoothly. Brooklyn gets on with the boys well. “Dude! Good job, she’s great!” Ash says to me when we get back home.

“I really liked seeing you in the daytime you know!” I tell Brooklyn that night on the beach.

“Yea. I’m not really a social person, but your friends are pretty cool. I like them.”

“Not social? They think you’re like the best ever!”

“Really? Most people just think I’m a freak.” She sighs and stares at the water.

“What?” I honestly don’t understand what about her is freakish. “Why?”

Brooklyn’s POV

“Why?” I knew as soon as he asked I’d have to find a way to divert.

“You wanna swim?” The words roll out of my mouth before I can stop them. I stand and begin to take off my shorts and sweatshirt. I don’t actually have my swimsuit on so I’m left in my black bra with black lace underwear. Thank god I matched this morning. I watch as Luke’s eyes bulge out of his head. “You coming?” I ask walking backwards into the water. He quickly tugs his shirt over his head and undoes the button on his jeans revealing his plaid boxers. I wade out until the water has consumed most of my body but my feet still touch the bottom. Luke floats a few feet away from me slowly getting closer. Under water his hands find my hips, one moves to push a strand of wet hair stuck to my face away.

“I don’t think you’re a freak,” his voice is low and sincere. My lips meet his in a gentle kiss. Luke’s lips are sweet but mixed with the salt from the water. His thumbs draw circles on my hips as the kiss deepens. I wrap my legs around his waist and my hands tangle in his damp hair, loving the tingly feeling in my stomach.

“Wow,” he pulls back for air, resting his forehead on mine.

“Yea,” I breathe. After a few more lingering kisses we make our way out of the water.

“We’re having a movie day tomorrow. Come over?”

“I’d love to!” If my mom wants normal for me, then I’ll have to show her that I can go out and be normal.

“Great. Come around 6:30.” Luke gives me a quick peck on the lips before disappearing into the dark.
