BEAU

Chris, his parents and myself sat anxiously in a waiting room, in complete silence. I twiddled my thumbs nervously until I felt Chris' eyes stare at me.

"I think you should leave Beau" he said through gritted teeth.

"What?" I said. I was stunned, how could someone be so rude.

"Me, Mum and Dad can take it from here. Your not needed."

I stared at him in disbelief.

"You can't be serious."

"I'm deadly serious. Just leave. Your unwanted"

I looked over to his mother and father. They didn't even have the nerve to look at me.

"Chris, you must be stupid if you think I'm just going to leave that easily" I replied.

I felt his fists clench together tightly.

"Don't push your luck. It's not like the doctors will ask for you if she dies. Your just her boyfriend; we are her family. We are more important."

I felt myself laugh sarcastically.

"More important? I've been with her every single day she's been diagnosed. You came to visit her.. Once?"

"We didn't know she was ill..." Chris began.

"That's not the point Chris. You say she's 'family' and everything; ever since I've been with her you haven't been bothered to come and say hello. If she didn't have cancer you probably still wouldn't have bothered to visit and say hello" I said.

"You take that back!" Chris' said raising his voice slightly.

"No Chris . Because you know I'm telling the truth" I looked at over at Zoe's parents who were both looking down at their legs in guilt.

"You all know I'm telling the god-damn truth!"

Everything went back to the silence in the room. If Chris thought I was going to leave that easily, he should have thought again.

That shut Chris right up. Next thing I know Chris stood up and stomped out of the room. His mum followed, trying to calm him down.

I could feel myself becoming upset. Not because I had made Chris loose his temper, not because it was Zoe's family. It was because I acted like a total idiot. I stooped all the way down to Chris' level. Tears started to form in my eyes, suddenly I heard a voice.

"Sorry for the way Chris acted Beau, his head isn't right since he found about Zoey" Zoe's father said, who was still sitting in the waiting room.

I wiped my eyes quickly.

"It's okay, everything just feels like rubbish now. I'm sorry too"

He moved over to the seat beside me and put his hand around my shoulder.

"We both have to act like men now. For Zoey's sake. Chris doesn't act like a man, he overreacts too much. From what Zoey tells me, your the man she's always wanted and needed.

I could feel tears starting to roll down my face. Zoe's dad hugged me, letting me cry on his shoulders.

"Let it all out, let it all out"

"I'm not as strong as you sir." I said through tears.

"You are Beau, in more ways then you will ever know"

To this day, I don't think he will ever realise how much them words meant to me.
