From "The Waking" by Theodore Roethke:

"I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
I learn by going where I have to go."

-------------------------------------------------------------
I groaned as I twisted and turned in bed.
I had been trying so hard to go to sleep , but every time I shut my eyes, I saw a familiar pair of hazel brown eyes.

I had been attempting to sleep far the past one hour, and nothing worked.
Finally, I huffed and sat up. I looked at the time. 12 Midnight.

Noah must have felt me moving because he got up too.
He looked at me , and rubbed his tired eyes.

' Can't sleep doll?,' he asked me.

I shook my head in response. He grinned, and got off the bed, taking my hand.

'Come with me,' he said, and dragged me out of the house, his hand still in mine. Not that minded in the least.

We walked out of the house, and towards his car. I gave him a puzzled look that said ' Where are you taking me in the middle of the night, in my pajamas?' I was dressed in a tank top, and some shorts, my hair tied up in a bun.

He just smiled at me, and gestured for me to get in. I shrugged and listened to him.

We drove in silence for quite some time.

I looked out of the window to see the streets passing by in a blur of people and lights. I noticed that, as time went by, the number of people and lights decreased slowly, indicating we were out of the main town.

I wondered where we were going.

-------------------------------------------------------------

' Doll,' I heard someone say.
I blinked.

Noah was standing outside my window, and looking at me with those big brown eyes of his. He shook me again, now completely awakening me.

' You fell asleep half an hour ago, ' he said, opening the door, and holding his hand out.
I looked at him, still trying to remember why I was in the car, and then turned my gaze towards his outstretched hand, and took it , mainly because he was holding it out, and also because I wanted to hold it anyway.

Noah helped me out, and locked the door of the car. He then guided me towards a blanket spread out on the ground.

I had no idea where I was.

I was standing on a grassy ledge, and behind me was a dirt path Thad led to God knows where.

But the most mesmerizing part was what lay in front of me.

Looking over the ledge, j could see the whole city, or at least that's what I thought.

There were lights. Many of them.
I couldn't see anything clearly, it was all a blur, a mess of colours that blended excellently together. A beautiful mess. We were standing on one of those tall cliffs that we could see from the city. I always wanted to climb up those cliffs, but never knew how to. But... here I am.

 here I am
