Astrid
After I walk out of the bakery, I go towards the edge of the forest to meet Jack but I don't see him there what so ever which is weird because he is always the first one here to wait for me.
"Where the hell is he?" I whisper to myself as I look around the area.
"I am in the grass, Astrid!" I hear a yell from beside me to see that Jack was lying down in the long grass which makes me have a little laugh.
"I thought you weren't here," I said while walking to the side of the grass and he stands up proudly with a whole heap of grass in his hair which makes me keep on laughing.
"Stop laughing!" Jack said while crossing his arms while acting like a 5 year old and I keep laughing.
"Stop being funny then." I said and he just chuckles.
"Come on, let's just go hunting." I said and the two of us go through the wire which contained a huge hole, heading towards the woods to do our usual hunting.
"Do you reckon we will get caught doing this one day?"
"Probably not." I said as the two of us kept going through the forest searching for a water source.
"I reckon a deer would be around the water source," I said to Jack as we walk onto a fallen tree, going to the other side as if the tree is a bridge.
"Astrid, what if we don't find anything today?" Jack asks while we jump off the tree, heading towards another one, containing my bow an arrows.
"Well, our family will have to go hungry for the night," I said. As I grab my bow an arrows, I started to feel an animal's presence and a huge grin spreads on my face.
"There's an animal near by," I say and Jack looks at me with a grin.
"I know, but it isn't an deer, it's a few turkeys."
"Can you see them in the distance?" I asked and he points over near the north and about 50 meters away, I see 4 turkeys eating worms in the grass and I grab an arrow from my quiver. I start breathing to get my concentration going.
"You can do this Astrid..." Jack whispers, but I ignore him. I get my bow and arrow in the right angle and position and I put the rope onto my cheek. A couple of minutes of staying the same position, I let go of the arrow and one of the chickens get hit in the chest and it falls over on the ground while the other chickens scream and run off.
"Well done!" Jack yells and I look to him smiling.
"I do know how to kill a chicken, there is no need to celebrate." I said and he chuckles.
"Alright then, let's see if there is any dead animals in our traps." Jack said as I grab the chicken then the two of us go towards the traps that we planted yesterday.
"Astrid! A couple of rabbits have been caught in the traps!" Jack says pointing at a couple of traps which causes me to smile.
"This is great! We take a half of the chicken each and one rabbit each!" I say happily and Jack chuckles.
"You take the whole chicken, you were the one who caught it," Jack said.
"Really?"
"Really." Jack said smiling and I smile back.
"Do you want to go back or do you want to hunt some more?" I ask.
"I have to go back since my mother needs me to do some of the chores." Jack groans and I laugh.
"Alright then," I said as I undo the trap containing the dead rabbit.
"So, how's Alissa going?" Jack asks as he does the other one.
"She's going alright, but she is very nervous about the reaping tomorrow." I said.
"Yeah my little brother to," Jack said and I sigh.
"I still can't believe we have to do this crap." I said angrily.
"Agreed," Jack said and we started to walk back towards our village.
