Chapter 17

A couple of hours later...

Narrative

"I still can't believe you did that! They are going to hate you now!" Effie snapped at the girl who was eating a piece of bread.

"At least I got their attention!" She snapped back after swallowing the bread and Haymish came into the room and looked at the two of them and scolded.

"At least she had gotten their attention." Haymish said before sitting down on the chair, and for once he didn't look like he had a hang over or he hadn't drank alcohol today.

"Someone isn't drunk for once." Matthew said and the old man chuckled.

"Yeah," He said while looking up to Astrid and Effie and he gave the teenager a thumbs up with a huge smile on his face.

"Good job kid! I reckon they would have loved you after you did that!" Haymish said and she smiled widely. That's the very first compliment he has given her since the two of them met!

"Thank you, but I probably won't get a good score for that," She said sitting down, but a couple of moments later, the television turned on revealing Cinner, a desk and him holding papers. The results are near...

"Good evening folks!" He said while having his usual laughter which had caused an eye roll from Astrid and a couple of chuckles from the men.

"We have our results here for you all for the tributes!" Cinner said before looking at the papers and he looked up again.

"We rate them out of 12," Cinner said again before looking at the papers and he started to read them out.

"Crash Henderson, with the score of 10."

"Sam Weatherway, with the score of 10." Cinner said as he kept going on, and finally it had gotten to Hiccup.

"Hiccup Haddock, with the score of.... 10." He said and a huge smile spreads on the girls face.

"Good job," She mumbled to herself before listening to the rest of the results. A few minutes had past and now it was at district 12.

"Matthew Hensworth, with the score of.... 8." He said and everyone in the room cheered loudly and congrats were heard all over the pent house.

"And finally, Astrid Hofferson," He said and she looked at the TV extremely scared and nervous on what she would find out, when he said the number that had surprised everyone in the whole of the country.

"With the score of..... 11." He said and everyone gasped extra loudly, especially her. She had beaten everyone in the districts of the 74th Hunger Games... This can't be possible.

Astrid 

"Well done!" Matthew said, giving me a tight hug and I pay it back.

"I thought they hated me." I said and Haymish bursts into laughter.

"Well, they didn't kid! I am very proud of you!" He said smiling and I smile back.

"Let's have some dinner to celebrate!" Effie said before going over to table which has a big stock of food. As I sit down, I started to think to myself. Does that mean I actually scared everyone? I know it isn't a good thing for me since everyone will probably be coming at me, but I reckon it won't be too bad.

"Astrid, are you okay?" Matthew asked and I look to him with a calm face. I really wish he can stop asking me that exact same question...

"Yeah, I was just thinking to myself. I may have freaked people out for the games." I said and he chuckles.
