Chapter 6

Narrative
"Alissa Hofferson." Effie says into the microphone which makes Astrid's eyes start to ball up in tears.

S-She was picked...

"Alissa, where are you dear?" Effie says into the microphone and Alissa starts to look around the place, looking very really scared.

A couple of minutes later, Alissa goes into the aisle of the district looking at her, but Astrid had started to run through the crowd and she ends up in the aisle behind her.

"Lisa?" Astrid yelled and two men turn around and they start to dodge her.

"Lisa?!" Astrid yells as she starts to push the guys away from her.

"I VOLUNTEER?! I VOLUNTEER?!" Astrid screams and the men stop pushing her away as they go to the side, they both look at her in shock.

"I volunteer as tribute." Astrid said standing up straight, looking brave while everyone else gasps.

"Well... it looks like we have a volunteer." Effie said while Alissa ran over to Astrid and she hugged her tightly while Astrid hugs her back tightly. But on the other hand, Astrid's mother was looking at them extremely upset. What would she imagine without another Hofferson in the house hold... the one who always took charge and pride into the family. The one who kept them filled with food and not starving like the others.

"Alissa, go find mum, go find mum, I'm so sorry," Astrid said repeatedly as Alissa has tears streaming down her face.

"NO!" Alissa screamed.

"I'm so sorry..." Astrid whispered. But Astrid didn't notice that Jack came walking out from the crowd and walked towards the two girls and the guards, but two of them go in front of Jack and start to push him back.

"I am going to grab her and get Alissa to her mother," Jack says and the guard's look at each other and they start to hesitate but nod.

"So I can go now?" Jack said and the two men step away to let Jack go in and get Alissa away from Astrid.

"Go find mum!" Astrid said one more time but Jack picked her up and he carried her away.

"NOOOO!" She kept screaming and tears rolled down her face. As Alissa kept screaming, the four soldiers surround Astrid and they walk up to the stage where she will be revealed in front of the entire district.

"Come on dear," Effie said while Astrid walks up the stairs with a confused look spread on her face.  As Astrid gotten to the top of stairs, Effie put a hand on her back and she pushed her a little to get her to the center of the stage and tears rolled down her cheeks.

Astrid

"What's your name?" Effie said looking at me while I look out over to the crowd to see my mother, Alissa and Jack looking at her really upset.

"Astrid Hofferson..." I say into the microphone.

"Was that your sister?" Effie asks me.

"Yes..." I say as I keep looking out at the crowd. But tears continued to roll down my cheeks as I see my sister hugging my mother like a huge teddy bear.

"Let's give an applause to our first tribute!" Effie says and she starts to clap, but none of the district clapped, instead, they all put up three fingers, representing that you did a good deed and saying goodbye to someone you truly love. After everyone puts their hands down, Effie walks away from me over to the other side of the stage and she goes towards the boy's boxes. A couple of minutes later a random boys name was called out and the boy comes beside me and we shake hands.

"The tributes of District 12!" Effie says and I keep looking out to the crowd to my family members and friends.

"I-I'm sorry..." I whisper to myself. A couple of minutes later I was taken away with two guards behind me meaning it's officially time to say goodbye to my family and friends.
