Charlotte

The rest of the day went by slowly. It seemed to drag by, prolonging the end of the day by hours. But when the final bell rang, she couldn't help but smile.

She jumped at every opportunity she had to spend time with Henry, so when he invited her over to help him study, she couldn't say no.

When she got to her locker after school, she quickly packed her books into her backpack, and headed around the corner to Henry's locker.

"Hey you ready to go?" He asked her when he saw her.

"Absolutely" she smiled.

"Great, let's go" he said to her.

Henry's house was a few blocks away from their school, so the walk back after school wasn't very long. She enjoyed being alone with him, hearing him laugh at all of her stupid jokes as they walked together, side by side. It was one of her favourite parts of the day.

When they got back to Henry's house, she noticed that there weren't any cars in the driveway.

"Are your parents not home?" She asked him.

"No, my dad is on a business trip, and my mom took Piper to the mall after school. They should be home in a few hours."

She nodded, sitting on the couch. As she was taking her books out of her bag, she could feel her heartbeat increase inside her chest. It did that every time she was alone with Henry, and she didn't know why.

"So how much studying do you think I really need?" He asked her, bringing over two cups of juice, and sitting beside her. His leg was brushed up against hers.

"Well how much of this unit have you actually paid attention to?" She asked back.

"Not much" Henry answered.

"Then honey we have a lot of work to do." She joked with him. He smiled back at her.

As they studied, Charlotte was impressed with how well Henry retained the information that she had been teaching him. By the end of the night, he had memorized most of what he needed to know for his test the next day.

"I can't believe how well you are doing" she said, bringing their empty cups to the kitchen.

"I guess some of that genius mind you have in there has been rubbing off on me" he joked.

"Maybe" she said, smiling to herself as she cleaned out the cups. "You think you are ready for your test tomorrow?"

"Beyond ready. I actually feel like I'm going to do really well on this test."

"Well you better, I didn't spend my whole night here for a C."

He smiled at her, and she smiled back. Looking at Henry made her want to always be happy.

"I better get going" she said, picking her bag up off the floor. "Moms going to be wondering if I got kidnapped or something"

"Well you could always tell her that I took you and forced you to give me half of your brain" he joked, causing her to laugh.

"Yes that would go over so well" she said.

"What, your mom loves me!" He smiled.

"Yea she does" Charlotte said.

Henry walked up to her, and pulled her into his arms. He hugged her, his hands on her back, for what seemed like an eternity. She felt herself never wanting him to let go. But when he did, she looked up into his eyes.

He was looking at her, she was looking at him, and not one of them was moving away.

They stood there, lost in each other's eyes, until the door opened behind Charlotte, scaring her back into reality.

"Hi Charlotte, I didn't know you were going to be here" a woman's voice said. Henry's mom, back home with Piper.

"Yea, I was helping Henry study for his history test tomorrow" she said, "But I'm actually just on my way home."

"Oh well thanks for stopping by" his mother said, calling after her as she walked out the front door.

"Anytime" she called back.

She turned to face Henry, who was still standing where he had been before his mother got home, a touch of red in his cheeks.

"I'll see you tomorrow Hen" she said to him.

She waited for an answer, but instead she just got silence. Confused, she grabbed the handle of the door, and closed it behind her.

As she walked around the corner to her house, she couldn't help but wonder why her heart felt like it was going to beat out of her chest.
