Mitch stormed back onto the ship. He had tears in his eyes that he refused to let himself shed, and anger at himself was burning in his chest. None of the pirates noticed his distress - they were too ecstatic from their recent pillaging of a ship. So, Mitch raced to his chambers so he could cry.
However, he forgot about his darling.
Scott looked up when Mitch entered the room, immediately dropping to his knees and bowing his head submissively. "Welcome back, Daddy," he murmured. Mitch jumped violently, clutching his heart, as he slowly backed up against the door. "Wh-What are you doing here?" he stammered, and Scott frowned, shrinking away. "I'm sorry, Daddy. I thought I was supposed to be here. You told me to wait for your return," he said quietly, terrified that he had somehow misheard Mitch when he gave him directions and now his slip-up was going to cost him.
Mitch blinked, remembering this. "Oh, right," he muttered, running his hand through his hair and blinking away his tears. "Go to the dungeons. I don't need you right now." For some reason, the last sentence stung, but Scott slowly nodded. "Yes, Daddy," he murmured sadly, starting to crawl past him. He moved slowly, not wanting to go to the dungeons. Mitch treated him horribly, but if Scott had to choose between Mitch and the dungeons, he'd choose Mitch in a heartbeat.
Mitch's breathing hitched and he blinked again. "Wait." Scott immediately froze. "Yes, Daddy?" he asked softly, daring to let himself hope. "Come back," Mitch whispered pathetically, his voice breaking. Scott frowned and looked up at him, frowning more as he saw his shining eyes. "Daddy, what's wrong?" he said softly as he crawled back over, nuzzling his leg. Mitch shook his head frantically, stuffing his hand in his mouth to keep sobs from escaping. Scott sat at his feet and nuzzled him comfortingly, hating seeing his daddy sad. Even though Mitch was horrible to him, Scott definitely liked him more than the other pirates. They were mean and only tried to hurt him, and while Mitch did hurt him, Scott at least got something out of the nights they shared.
Despite Mitch's best efforts, a small sob escaped his lips and he collapsed on his bed. Scott hesitated before jumping up there with him, nuzzling his cheek gently. "Daddy, what's wrong?" he repeated even quieter, and Mitch choked out another sob, reaching out to Scott and pulling him to his chest. Scott suppressed a smile, his heart fluttering, and let himself curl into him. "You can tell me, Daddy. I promise."
Mitch was silent for a moment, pulling Scott closer. "N-Nothing," he croaked eventually, "I'm just being stupid." Scott frowned and peeked up at him, nuzzling against his chest. "No, you aren't, Daddy. It's okay to cry," he murmured. Mitch pressed his lips together and closed his eyes through his tears, pulling Scott totally on top of him. "Someone... on the other ship... they said something and it f-... freaked me out, I guess..." Scott frowned more and subconsciously clutched his shirt. "What did they say?" he asked quietly, but Mitch was definitely not going to tell him. "Nothing," he said, his voice cold and hard once more. Scott flinched, but nodded, not wanting Mitch to let go of him. "Okay, Daddy."
Mitch's anger lasted only a second, though, and he quickly fell back into his sad state. "I'm sorry," he whispered shakily, pulling Scott closer. Scott shook his head slightly, clutching onto him tighter. "It's okay, Daddy." I'm used to it. Mitch let out a shaky breath and curled up, subconsciously making himself the little spoon. He hadn't been held in so long.
Scott allowed it, of course, gently wrapping his arms around the smaller man and holding him to his chest. Mitch closed his eyes against the tears streaming down his cheeks and let out another shaky breath, burying his face in Scott's chest. He felt more vulnerable than he had in a long time, but he didn't really care. Some part of him knew Scott couldn't hurt a fly, much less his daddy. He knew that despite everything Mitch had put him through and all the stuff he had experienced even before Mitch, Scott had a heart of gold.
Mitch found himself wondering about Scott's life before. He wondered if he had a girlfriend. He wondered if his parents were wondering about Scott's life now, and if they ever thought their precious son would grow up to be kidnapped by pirates and be used over and over for their amusement. His heart broke slightly at the thought, and he subconsciously gripped at Scott's shirt, burrowing deeper in his arms.
A few moments later, the most beautiful voice Mitch had ever heard filled the air, coming from none other than Scott.
"Close your eyes, lay your head down
Now it's time to sleep
May you find great adventure
As you lie and dream
If you're scared of the darkness
I will calm your fear
There's a light in the hallway
So you know I'm here"So count your blessings every day
It makes the monsters go away
And everything will be okay
You are not alone
You are right at home
Goodnight."Mitch's eyes drooped closed and he let out a contented sigh, moving closer to Scott. "You have a really pretty voice," he murmured absentmindedly, and Scott blushed, smiling shyly. "Thank you, Daddy," he whispered. Mitch smiled to himself, nuzzling against Scott's chest. "You're welcome, darling."
Scott blushed more at the nickname and subconsciously held Mitch tighter. "Daddy, I... I really like it when you call me that..." he said awkwardly, and Mitch laughed softly to himself, his tears forgotten. "That's good." Scott's heart fluttered at the sound. Stop it, Scott. You have a boyfriend back home and you're going to marry him if you ever get out of this mess. Scott immediately calmed his heartbeat, missing his boyfriend now more than ever. He frowned to himself, subconsciously pulling Mitch closer and trying to pretend he was back home.
But the rocking of the ship reminded him time and time again he was never going home.
