I zipped over to Ruthie, or what was left of her anyways. I closed her pained eyes, "Rest now." Tearing off the cadet symbol on her breast pocket, I put one hand fisted over her heart. I remembered her smile, honesty, and bravery as she saved me from the abnormal. I felt like crying. I will not waste the life she had given hers up for.

"Thank you."

I clutched her symbol, wishing I could take her with me. Grappling onto the building that Jack was on top of, I prepared myself. Levi was leaning against the chimney waiting for me. I sighed, knowing to make this quick. My feet pattered on the rooftop, the sound echoing in the silence. I bent down, brushing his light brown hair out of his wide, beautiful hazel eyes. I looked into them for a long time, committing it to memory. I hugged him forcefully, feeling the coldness of his body. Jack was already gone. Setting him down, I tore the one symbol my family would remember him by.

"Goodbye, Jack." I closed his eyes, closing his right hand into a fist and placing it over his heart. The heart that'll never beat. I let him die without telling him about how I felt. I slipped the symbols into my breast pocket, looking up at Levi.

He uncrossed his arms and legs, "By now they would've reached the other group. Let's go."

I followed Levi, trying to conserve as much gas as I can.

"There." I said, pointing to a group heading towards the tower overrun by titans. Their numbers were fewer than I expected as I got closer. They burst through the windows, the glass shattering everywhere. Levi and I followed them, always a few feet behind. Outside, there was an abnormal fighting the other Titans. I didn't pay attention to any of it, but Levi knew. I heard talking.

"This plan's risky. We'll need only our top seven people that can cut deep enough... and not miss." It was Armin's shaky voice. Levi and I closely listened, "We'll gather everyone into the platform with rifles. There should be seven titans down there. When they all approach close enough, fire. Aim for their eyes so they can't see. The seven people will be crouched on top of wooden beams right above the Titans." He finished.

"That's a smart plan but.." Levi finally spoke up and everyone's heads turned, "what if they miss?"

"C-captain Levi!" They acknowledge his presence by saluting.

"Calm down. We're in a state of emergency. Now, answer my question."

"Yes sir! Seeing that you are here, I believe you'd be the best safety mechanism to ensure our plan works. With your skills, you can get to any of the titans at any time. The best bet is for you to wait where you can reach all of the titans at once." Armin was still in his salute.

"Very well. Let's put this plan into action!"

"Sir!"

I took up a rifle, looking around. I didn't see any familiar faces and I asked, "Did another group reach yours?"

Armin looked at me, "What group? We only found a few others stranded on roofs, but that's it."

My eyes widened and I looked away, "Tch. Nevermind."

They didn't make it, did they? I sent them to their deaths, just like I had with Ruthie and Jack.

I felt someone's gaze on me and I looked around, meeting Levi's. He immediately turned his head the other way, leaving me confused. Why would he be looking at me, of all people?

"Is everyone ready?" I heard Jean ask. The team nodded, faces solemn. If this didn't work, then we're screwed.

"Then let's head out!"

Walking onto the lift, I readied my rifle.

If everyone misses, if anything, then Levi will make sure we make it out alive. He'll make sure that we make it over the wall. But... would it be fine to just die right now?

I held the gun lower.

I would get to see Jack and Ruthie again. Wouldn't that be nice?...

"Having second thoughts?" I looked up.

Levi was giving me a knowing stare, "It was because you weren't smart enough. If you were smarter about it, they wouldn't have died."

A heavy weight bore down on me.

"Dammit, I know that." I said, looking away.

"They died for your sake. So don't throw your life away thinking they'll be happy to see you." My eyes widened, facing him once again. Nodding, I held my rifle up firmly as the lift began to lower.

"Good luck." He said.

"Don't get distracted." I smirked at Levi as he walked away.

Everyone was in position.

"Steady..." Marco said as the Titans took interest in us. Everyone was quaking in their boots, rifles shaking.

"Wait for it..." My finger was on the trigger. Six Titans gathered.

"Almost there.." The seventh approached. One titan was so close to Marco that the tip was almost touching it's eye.

"Fire!" He shouted as loud as he can. The apprehensive trainees let the titans have it, most of the bullets pierced their eyes.

I screamed, firing off a round of bullets straight into the titan's pupil. Blood splattered everywhere, and it felt oddly pleasing.

The seven trainees jumped from the wooden beams, all of them seeming to hit their target.
"Uhh guys..." Sasha chuckled nervously, "I think I missed mine."
"Y-yeah, me too." Said Connie with an I-am-going-to-die-now face. Levi suddenly jumped from the beam Sasha did, skillfully cutting the titans necks.
"You saved me, Captain!" Sasha threw her arms around his hips, crying.
"Thanks man. I owe you one." Connie added.
"How did you know that Sasha and Connie would miss?" I asked, jumping off the platform and onto a decaying Titan body.
"They had doubtful looks on their faces." He replied in the most neutral tone.
We silently refilled our gas tanks until Levi questioned, "So what are you going to do after this? Quit? Stay?"
I froze for a second, and with a determined voice I answered, "My mind is already set. I'm going to join the Scout Regiment."
