"Even after that ODM gear check, they haven't pinpointed the killer." Gunther sighed. 

"Yeah... and after Trost, how many people do you think are going to be recruits for the Survey Corps?" Eld asked. We were sitting on stairs in front of a well outside of the headquarters. 

"How many do you usually get?" I asked.

"Heh. I don't really bother to count." Eld answered.

"Me too.."

"Well, I know a few people that are guaranteed to join." I smiled.

"Seriously? Even after Trost?" 

"Yeah. Since Eren's in the Survey Corps, Mikasa, his sister, is definitely going to join us. Armin's their longtime friend, and I know he's been planning for awhile to join. And after what happened to Marco..." I trailed off, "Jean's probably going to join too."

"I see." Gunther nodded.

"Why did you join?" Eld asked.

"Well... After seeing my friends die for my sake, I've decided I'm going to dish out what the Titans deserve." I clenched my fist, "And after seeing Auruo and Petra in action, I knew that I just had to join."

"So you're basically like Eren." Gunther commented.

"...I suppose." I took a deep breath.

We heard a horse coming in. "Get in line!"

We saluted just as Levi pulled in. I had no idea why, but just seeing him riding in struck my heart like an arrow. I think I admire him too much...

"Make ready people, we're going on patrol." Levi ordered.

"Yes sir!" I nodded.

"Captain Levi!" Eren hastily saluted, "Reporting for duty!" 

Eren made me cringe. Just the way he said that was awkward.

"Eren. You will be sticking close to me at all times." I wish I was the one... Wait. What the hell am I thinking?! God, maybe I'm the awkward one... "The only reason you're out of confinement is because I'm watching you."

"Yes sir." He nodded.

"Let's ride!" Levi yelled, pulling back the reins of his ebony horse. 

I stood there in awe, "What're you staring at? It's like you love him or something." Eld grumbled, grabbing his horse. 

"I-It's not like that!" I stammered, mounting my horse, then following Levi.

~~Time Skip~~

I watched Levi as he brought his hand towards his horse's snout, letting it lick him, twice. He then stroked the side of it's nose. See? Levi doesn't have a cold heart as he's perceived to have. He just shows it in small ways. Oh crap. I'm staring again. Levi met my stare with his usual monotone face. I looked down, as if I was fixing my horse's reins. 

"We'll be stationed right here, the safest spot in the formation. Even the supply wagons don't get such special treatment. Our goal for this expedition is to simply leave and come back."

"I see, but I'm still not sure if I can use my ability or not, or even control it."

"Eren, do you understand what the commander was asking you back then?" We were on a grassy field, resting and going over today's expedition plans.
