Reclaiming Trost, Pt. 2

A Titan reached out for Mitabi, and Mikasa headed towards it. I beat her to it, cleanly slicing it's nape. We exchanged glares, and I smirked. The Titan went limp and it's head face planted into the roof.

"Did you see that, Jack!? First official kill!" I landed, turning around. My smile and gaze was met with Levi's, and I looked down. "Shit."

"Tch. Don't get so cocky. It'll be the death of you."

"Behind us!" Ian shouted, "It's a thirteen meter, and by the looks of it, it's going to pounce on Jaeger!"

Someone else added, "Heads up! We've got four more coming from the gate. All of them ten meters at least!"

"Right, rear, Ackerman, yours!" Levi commanded.

"Sir!" Mikasa headed straight for the thirteen meter.

"Keep it away from him at all costs!" He looked behind him at Mitabi, "Hold the rest off here."

"Will do."

Mikasa successfully killed off the Titan. I suddenly heard Armin's voice, "Mikasa, why'd the plan go belly up?! Why on earth is he just slumped here like this?!"

"Get away, it's dangerous! Something went wrong and he lost control and wound up like that! I tried to snap him out of it but I couldn't get him to respond! He's been out like this for the past few minutes!"

"But the plan!"

"We had to shift tact. Right now, all we can do is protect him! He's defenseless. And there's... and there's just too many! I don't know how much longer we can keep this up!"

I heard something slice through skin. Eren started to thrash and roar.

"Stop it! You'll get yourself killed!" Mikasa cried.

"I'm fine, just do what you can to keep the rest at bay. Trust me, there's tons of other people you should be worried about. Now leave Eren to me, and go do what you do best!"

"Tsk." Mikasa headed back.

I heard a cry and realized someone was in the grasp of a Titan. Levi killed it with an astonishing speed and accuracy, helping the guy out. He returned, just as another slapped their hand down on the roof. It knocked him and Mitabi back, and Mikasa came in saying, "I got it, I'll help team Mitabi!" She cut into the Titan's neck.

Levi, Mikasa, and I flew over to a building where two people were watching the gate. "Status report."

"Five Titans approaching the gate, sir."

"This isn't looking good." I muttered. "What are we going to do?" I looked at Levi.

He was staring at the Titans. "We keep fighting. No matter what, we'll fight."

"Even though I literally just met you, you're impossible." I laughed. They looked at me like I was insane.

"How the hell can you laugh at this situation?"

"I don't know. I think it's a medical condition, I swear." I switched my blades. "But you know, I still have faith. I mean, it's not just me that saw my friends die here today. Everyone has. But just because they died, it doesn't mean I have. If I die, it'll be a disgrace to them. So I won't. I'm not going to die here and now!" Thuds interrupted my ranting. They were slow, but they were steady. Everyone looked around in confusion, and I noticed a walking boulder. It was heading towards the gate.

"I'll rant every single time we're in a life or death situation." I whispered. They looked the way I was.

"Well I'll be." Levi said.

Eren was hauling the boulder over his head. "Armin did it!" I said with a huge smile.

Mikasa was in awe. "Eren..."

"Mikasa!" Armin landed next to her.

"Armin!"

"He came out of it somehow. We're set. He's determined to see the mission through 'till the end. As long as we have his back while he heads for the wall, victory will be ours!"

Half of Levi's face was covered in shadow as he listened to Armin. "Defend him!" He shouted. "To the last man, if that's what it comes to! Eren must reach the gate! I don't want a single Titan anywhere near him! The three of you, go! I want you and Eren immediately! Hop to, soldiers! That's an order!"

"Sir, yes, sir!"

A few Titans headed towards us, and Levi spotted Team Mitabi behind them.

"Team Mitabi, what are you doing?"

"The sons of bitches lost interest in us! We need to get close enough to grab their attention!"

"Hey, big guy, over here!"

"You walkin' away? Maybe you want me to shove my blades up your fuckin' asses!"

The group of Titans stopped, turning around.

"It worked! We got two of them!"

"All right, make a beeline for the buildings!"

"They're insane..." Armin said, "Setting foot down there is suicide! If they get cornered down there, there'll be nothing they can do."

"Yeah, I know. Let's move out." Levi jumped down, "Let's follow Team Mitabi!"

"Come on. We need to go." I said, jumping down with Armin and Mikasa behind me.

"Over here, come get me!" Ian shouted.

"With that attitude, you'll never catch me!" They were snatched up.

"No, dammit!" Mitabi yelled, also getting caught.

Eren neared the gate. We ran in front of him, "There's still one in front of us!" Armin hissed.

"I'll take care of it. I'm not letting some ten meter Titan get in the way of humanity's first victory!" I rushed forward with a cry of indignation. I grappled onto it's outstretched arm, running up it. I jumped off just as the Titan was about to bite me, aiming straight for the back of it's neck. I pulled myself in, "This is for humanity!"

The Titan fell onto the ground as Eren trampled over it.

"Go!" Armin screamed with tears in his eyes as he realized what was about to happen. Eren echoed his cry with his own, slamming the boulder right where the opening was. Clouds of dust blew back as everyone stared at the scene with shock, awe, and raw feelings. I collapsed onto my knees along with Armin.

Rico appeared on the scene, and said, with a shaky voice, "Comrades... your deaths weren't in vain." Tears glistened as she fired a yellow flare. "We have made history. This day, belongs to humanity."
