Chapter 30 - The Downside of Marrying Early

This is a short chapter, but don't worry. It's because I don't want to have a lot of revelations in one chapter. The ending is near y'all... :)

Angel's POV

I knew there was something off about the whole scenario. 

Getting married at once was never a good choice. It's like watching old, Disney movies where you see princesses marry princes that they just met. I wished it was a happy ending for her, but it wasn't.

I knocked twice before I walked into my mom's office. She was sitting on her desk with her hand on her forehead. Her secretary was standing in front of her and their expressions told me that it was something serious.

"Angel," my mom said as they saw me come in. I gave her a warm smile as I came to a stop right across her desk. I gave her a questioning look, wondering why her secretary, Ashley, looked like she had a lot to worry about. She gave me a quick smile before she bid my mom goodbye and hurried to go outside.

"What's going on, mom?"

She sighed and removed her glasses. It took a few seconds of her trying to decide the right words to say.

"Did you know that Artemis married one of the Carters?"

I mentally gasped at what she said. How could she know about this? We kept it a secret for five days now since August and Artemis went on their honeymoon trip. There was no way it would come out unless one of us told other people. But I doubt it, my friends would never do that.

I kept my composure fixed and I looked at my mom, "I don't know where you got that from, but if she got married, I'm pretty sure I'd know about it."

I hate lying to my mom. But I made a promise to Artemis and August to never tell anyone.

"Angel, it's already out," she said with a disappointed face, "you don't have to keep it from me."

"But..." how could it be out already?! How did they find out about it?!

"It's all over the royals," my mom explained when she saw my confusion "apparently, Catherine came to the board and asked for their title back."

Catherine is my mom's second cousin, hence why I still consider August as my cousin. Her husband, James Carter was the CEO of Electro Corp, this multi-billion company that got shut down after all their scandalous and corrupt negotiations were exposed by a journalist. As a result, James and his family were stripped off their title. However, rumor has it that Catherine was able to make a deal with Artemis' mom. 

It's a stupid deal really. I have no idea why Artemis' mom would agree to it, but I heard that Catherine blackmailed her with something really big. The deal was if the Mcraille and Carter bloodline connects by marriage, the Carters will get their title and money back. 

Stupid deal. But it's a win win the way I see it. Artemis and August got married and they love each other. It's not like it's against their will. 

But does Artemis know about this deal? It would sound like she's been used. 

"Ashley and I are trying our best not to get this out of the media. It's my job as that family's PR to not get any royal issues out to the public."

Artemis was carefully hidden from the media since she was born. I don't know why that would be an issue. But August and his family...

"But it doesn't make sense...why would they make a big deal out of it?"

My mom walked towards me and held my hands, "the guy that Artemis married is not August..."

I stared at my mom in shock. How...?

"August Carter died 5 years ago from a car accident."
