Chapter 4: Searching for love

Pierce's POV

I wake up the next day refreshed and ready to find my mate. I just know she's out there somewhere. I head to get dressed into some khakis and a muscle t-shirt. I was dressed and ready within 10 minutes and I decided to call my beta so we
could figure out the search groups.

'Eric?'

'Yeah man?'

'Could you come to the pack house? I'm going to find my mate today and we need search groups. I'll meet you in the living room, bring some guys.'

'Of course alpha, as you wish.'

I trudged into the kitchen and made myself a bowl of whole wheat cereal and some fruit to go along with it. What? Alpha's gotta eat!

Soon enough, Eric was in the living room with twelve other men who were ready to fight for their Luna.

"Men, today we are going to scan the areas around the Midnight Forest pack, and the Twilight Star pack. All of us will stay together at all times. Thought I doubt it will be a dangerous mission, no man will be left behind." I ordered. All the men's heads bobbed up and down with my rules. "Now let's go!"

We hurried outside and shifted and soon enough we were running. When wolves run for any reason, there is still a social hierarchy. The alpha first (of course) then the beta, the gamma (mine's named Derrik) and the rest of the pack.

We ran for at least twenty minutes before we reached the territory of the Twilight Star pack. Their guards checked us and let us in for a quick search. I changed my mind about what I said earlier and got my men to split up so they could gather all the mateless women and I could see if my mate was one of them. I know you probably think this is rude, but I was getting desperate.

While this was happening I figured it would be a good idea to speak with the alpha. I asked permission to enter the pack house and alpha Rider was standing in the entry hallway.

"Pierce, dude! How are you?" We had been close friends since elementary school.

"I'm doing fine, how are you?"

"Never been better man. Found my mate a few weeks ago!"

'Ouch. That's gotta hurt...' My wolf cackled.

'Shut up. No one likes you.'

'Wow! That really did hurt!'

'Sorry. But it's like you don't even care about our mate!'

'Of course I do Pierce!'

'Then do me a favor and keep yourself quiet.'

"Are you okay Pierce?" Rider questioned.

"Oh yeah I'm fine." I fake laughed.

"No you're not," His face stone cold "you haven't found your mate have you?"

"No, not yet. That's actually what I wanted to talk to you about."

"Sure, sit down." He gestured to a large couch behind him and we sat down.

"So, I am here to find my mate. If you don't mind, my men are here and gathering all of the mateless women in your pack to see if one of them is mine."

Rider rubbed his chin and nodded his approval. With humans, this would be considered a very weird thing to do. But when an alpha wolf doesn't find his mate in time, him and his wolf go crazy.

"Alright," he smiled sincerely, "you are welcome to do so as long as you do not harm any of my pack members."

"Of course." I replied.

After hours of looking, we never even got close to finding her.

Maybe I just don't have a mate...

No Pierce! She is out there and you can feel it! My wolf screamed.

I shook my head. He's right, she has to be.

It turned out that it took a very long time to go through the Twilight Star pack. I was walking to my bedroom when I felt a thunder bolt of pain racked my body.

What was that?

I looked around, stunned. There was no sign of anything that would cause me pain.

'What the heck is going on?!' My wolf furiously questioned.

'I don't know.' I shot back.

I looked around once more and decided that this situation would best be solved by the pack doctor.

"Alpha!" Dr. Scott exclaimed as I burst into his office.

"I need your help," I said quickly as I took a seat on his table meant for checking on patients, "I just felt this random, terrible blast of pain and I have no idea what the source is." I tried my best to keep my voice calm.

"okay let me check..."

I never heard his answer because I blacked out before he could say anything.
