You were exhausted. You fell asleep as soon as your head hit the pillow. You had the worst day ever. You forgot to fix your clock for the time change so you were an hour late to work. Then you had to make up for it on your lunch break and stay late. You worked with socs and today there wasn't a single greaser that has the same shift as you. They pestered- no. Pestered is an understatement. They tripped you and made it look like an accident. Then pulled you to the side for a "quick question". They hit you, kicked you, cussed you out, and downgraded you. Unfortunately, everyone else was leaving at the same time. They followed you but once you caught on to them they went after you. They jumped you and to top it all off, they had blades. They didn't do anything too bad and it was all hide-able but it still hurt like heck. They threatened to do worse later and you knew that they would. It was only a matter of time.
"Y/n?"
You looked up at the clock. Darry's shift was over by now. It must be him.
"In here."
Your voice was raw from all the screaming you had done earlier. Unheard plies of help.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing."
He came and lied down next to you. You felt his warmth against your skin and it made you feel better. He wrapped an arm around you and hugged you close.
"Biggest lie I've ever heard."
You turned to face him.
"I guess your right. How'd you know?"
"It's obvious really. Your not acting like you. Your voice is raw and you don't look to hot."
"Gee thanks."
"Not what I meant. What's wrong?"
You couldn't lie to him. But it wasn't that easy to explain either.
"Just stuff at work."
"Like..."
"Lots of stuff. I had a shift with all socs today and they wouldn't leave me alone. Whenever they could get me alone they would use every excuse they could."
You felt him tense up next to you.
"What would they do?"
You didn't answer. It was all he needed though. He hugged you tighter and kissed the top of your head.
"Baby girl I won't let anything else happen to you. I'm gonna make sure of it, they won't do anything like that again. Is that all that happened?"
You didn't answer again.
"What did they do to you?"
He let go of you and sat up. He looked down at you and rubbed your arm soothingly. You looked down and muttered,
"They jumped me on he way home."
"What was that?"
"They followed me home and pulled blades on me."
His eyes widened with fury. He started cursing bad enough to make a sailor blush. He got up to leave but you stopped him.
"Darry, please."
"What? You expect me to just let it be that they hurt you? They can't get away with it!"
"I'm not asking for that. But not tonight please. It's really late and I just want to be with you."
He's face softened. He walked over to the bed and sat down. He got back up and walked to your side of the bed. He bent down and scooped you up in his arms.
"Darry what are you doing?"
"Making sure your ok."
You rolled your eyes at him and nuzzled into his chest.
"And then after, I know how to make you smile."
You gave him a confused look but he only smiled in return. He carried you into the kitchen and sat you down on the counter, and got out the first aid kit.
"Where'd they get you darlin'?"
You blushed.
"My back and arms."
He smiled at you. It wasn't a dirty smile though, more of an amused smile.
"Ok."
He grabbed the hem of your shirt and pulled it up a little. Only a little bit though, and tied it. He put something on it to keep it from getting infected and wrapped it up. They were just deep enough so that it wouldn't do anything serious. Just hurt a lot. He did the same thing to your arms and was finished. You jumped down off the counter but he put you back up on top of it.
"Darry what are you-"
He cut you off by kissing you. It was gentle and sweet. His hands were on the counter on either side of you and yours were on his arms. He broke apart to smile at you. Then he got right back at it. But this time it was more passionate. His hands were wrapped around your back right above your waist while one of yours were on his shoulder and the other on his neck. He was right, he did know how to make you smile. He pulled you off the counter top without breaking the kiss. You broke away and pushed his arms off. You grabbed his hand and led him to the bedroom. You were still exhausted and knew nothing would happen so you weren't worried. Plus if you didn't want to, you knew Darry wasn't gonna push you. You laid on the bed and turned off the lamp. You looked over at Darry and saw his smile in the moonlight. He put one hand on your waist and pulled you so that your bodies were touching. You put your hands against his chest and kissed him. His hand moved more towards your back and he held you roughly and tightly. You knew he didn't mean anything bad by it but it still gave you a weird feeling inside of you. It wasn't lustful but it wasn't telling you to get away either. He deepened the kiss and put his free hand on your waist. It moved up slightly, but you didn't mind. He wasn't the kind of person to do that sort of thing all at once so you didn't push him away. His hand was rough and calloused but he was gentle with you, and it was warm and comforting. You ran your hands through his messy hair and you felt him smile into the kiss. As much as you hated it, you pulled away. You knew you had to before anything happened. Cause later it would just be harder the longer you let it go on. His hands stayed where they were but your hands fell down to his shoulders. You looked him in the eyes and smiled.
"You were right. You do know how to make me smile."
You gave him a small kiss and turned over. You fell asleep happy that night, not worrying about socs or anything else. Just thinking of how happy you were with the man next to you and how you were going to spend the rest of your life with.
