Prompt was to write a poem based off an event from the first part of Fahrenheit 451.
FYI: it's a syllable count poem, the pattern is 9-10-10-9-10-10..., and the event I chose was Montag and Clarisse's meeting.
----
Eyes seemed to peer closer and closer
From around the corners, surrounding him.
The feeling was too much, he turned towards her.
Floating closer as the autumn wind
Passed between the two, silence filling in.
She was the bright light in the darkness there,
Radiating curiosity
Off of her pale complexion, twisted and gentle for the unknown within him.
The only contrast seen was in her eyes –
As dark as night surrounding the souls.
Trees in the background swayed to music
Of the wind to form the scenery.
He felt she would run away somewhere –
Yet – her posture stood still, looking at him.
Unspoken words came from him, her gaze
Set on the symbols of a fireman.
Neighbor and fireman easily read.
Kerosene set in the air above,
A pleasure or disgusting smell to one.
And as if the golden string had been cut –
"I'm Clarisse McClellan." "Guy Montag." –
The change of mentality had begun.---
i.e. I made an allusion to Greek Mythology; the golden string cutting represents an immortal's life ending by being cut by the... Gorgons.
