CHAPTER 1

Suddenly, I heard the test instructor’s voice. Her voice is abruptly booming after being stuck in silence for the now non-existent hour and a half.

"Everyone, please drop your pencils, the test is over, do not touch the test-"

I began to zone out, looking across the room for a tall, undulating haired brunette, and a golden blonde with transparent pastel blue glasses that you would see in the magazine pages of a school girl in the 60's.Both of their eyes met mine, we where all smirking, pupils widening, overwhelmed with enthrallment. I could see Electra's hands clenched to the side of her desk, and sage's foot taping uncontrollably.

"You may now leave the testing room." Right then and there we all three escaped from our seats, detaching ourselves from the flawed information school conformed us to learn. Junior year exams where finally over, summer was only a weekend and 1 day away.

Electra face was lighting up, her facial expressions where quite insane, she looked like she was squealing but with a closed mouth and no sound. This happened a lot when she try's to control her emotions; she wasn't very good at that. She was a demonstrative person, outgoing, but she was so sarcastically hilarious, and tended to have a fowl mouth. When she was passionately moved by something, she would cry over it, if someone pissed her off, she would make sure they knew. I loved that about her, I don't think I have ever met anyone who can love things and hate things so fervidly as she does.

"We are Fre-" before I knew it she had tripped over a blue study chair, having it glide onto the floor, loudly thudding on the ground, and earning herself nasty and judgmental looks from the remaining people in the room. She awkwardly curled her lips and flared her nostrils, mouthing the words "I’m sorry" and knowing her, she wasn't, just trying not to look as big as a fool as she seems to feel. Sage and I gave each other looks, walking behind Electra and she humiliatingly left the room. And the moment we departure the testing space, we all three burst into laughter unsoundly, quickly exiting the building before we annoyed any more people with our joy.

"MY LIFE" Electra grunted then giggled, "thank God there where no hot guys around or I would have just flipped a chair "

“Didn’t you already?” I said, making myself and Sage laugh even more, and Electra roll her eyes.

"There are hot guys in our school?" Sage said, making us all extend our titters.

Catching my breath I replied " Oh, she's talking about all the rich douche bags who spend there days fucking girls until they realize that they have no idea who they are? Oh I think the girls in our school fit into that category as well."

"Well, Marine's got a feisty side I see?" Electra said. The truth is, the subject was a feisty one for me, for all three of us actually. We all go to Roseate High School of New York City, a mixed private school for rich students with rich parents willing to spend thousands of dollars to pretend that a competitive education will perfect their children so they can satisfy their own egos and have something to brag about at brunch at the Westen. The society we live in is cold and unadventurous, none seem to have a sense of artistic motivation, or love for subject. They live by the code of success is proportional to happiness, that money is proportional to happiness, whereas I, can't see anything unhappier then that very statement. The life I am surrounded by is centered on senseless reputation, who has the smartest son? Who has the most intriguing car? Who can throw the best dinner party? And it depresses me, because I do not belong here, but yet I am stuck here, floating. If I don't belong here, but yet I am forced to conform to the lifestyle, well I don't really belong anywhere. Electra and Sage both felt as I did. We believe that is how we found each other, in a sea unsuited for swimming, we found each other, and all unfit for the society imposed on us.

We had each other and we knew ourselves, we didn't need more, so we took ourselves out that environment. We have no place in the popular girls table and on the jocks laps, and we weren’t trying to prove our selves worthy for a seat. High School was simply stupid.

Sage swiftly stopped us in our tracks, spreading her arms wide in front of our chest, guarding us from getting past her.

"Guys, summer is almost here, next year, we are seniors and we are out of this hell whole" we grinned, relieved from the stress school has produced for us. We paced ghastly out of the beautifully designed school gate; arms intertwined together, and headed off into the big apple.
