Marines POV

We are getting close to the hotel as Berlin calls me and tell me he is waiting for me in the lobby. I was excited and nervous all at once. No matter how much I don’t want to admit it, there is a small, deep whole in my heart that actually is into this whole ‘ball’ thing. And at least it is for charity as well. The money raised at the ball will go to Middle Eastern refugees, which is something I am extremely happy about and hope gets more attention.

I feel good. I feel pretty. I feel like I am reinventing myself.

And I haven’t even thought about Harry in a while.

Wait shit. Except now.

I am 100% sure he will be at the ball because of family business and as much as I would not like to admit it, he is definitely why I have this burdened anxiety in my lungs. But it’s okay, I feel like there will be less tension now since I am on the path of moving on.

We drive into the valet of the Hotel. I watch from outside my window as expensive cars pull in, releasing long legged models and their well cut mans in designer suits and Rolex watches. Gross.

“I am not used to this.” Clementine says softly in fear.

“Neither are we.” Electra and I say, looking out our car windows.

We finally stop the car in front of the hotel door, and are greeted with the valet men escorting us out of our car. I tried not to act surprised at how fancy everything was, but wow, it was not what I am used to. Yeah, for my family, it is their reality, but I have tried to distance myself so far from that lifestyle that the moment I am in it again I feel almost intimidated. We all three walk into the hotel, where we find Alex, Berlin, Quint, Charlie, and Winter all reading (of course) and waiting for us to arrive.

“That’s them,” I tell Electra, pointing to my nerdy friends. All the guys are in tuxedos and winter is dressed in this beautiful pastel grey/blue chiffon gown.

“Why are your poet friends so hot can you explain to me or…” Electra says as we walk towards the group. Clementine and I laugh.

They all stand up and smile and give Clementine and I hugs. Electra stands there awkwardly as she waits for me to introduce her to everyone.

“Hey guys, this is my best friend Electra, the one I told you about, Electra, say hi.”  Electra rolls her eyes at me and smiles at everyone and says,

“Hiiiii! I am Electra.”

“Electra, this is Alex, Winter, Berlin, Charlie, and Quint, who you have met before.”

“Hi.” She says awkwardly waving her hand, and then laughing. “Should we go in?” she continues. We all nod. Berlin lends me his arm and I wrap my arm around his bicep.

We walk into the grand ballroom and I am completely blown away. It looks like a British palace. Long candles basically lighted the whole place; each table had some shining through huge bouquets of white roses. There was a band on the side playing light music and a vast space in the middle filled with different people mingling. And above them, was the most beautiful of it all. A crystal chandelier, lit up by candles. I was enchanted.
